✨Today we're sharing something that's both bittersweet and exciting. It's a longer post, but we'd be so grateful if you'd take a few minutes to read it.
To our clients, customers, friends, and the community that helped build Legacy Lane....
After much reflection, we have made the decision that Legacy Lane Yarn & Gift's Main Street storefront chapter will come to a close at the end of August 2026.
When we started this journey back in 2005, we were babies really. We had big dreams, big ideas, and probably no real understanding of just how much work, sacrifice, stress, joy, laughter, and love it would take to build what Legacy Lane would become. Maybe that's exactly why we succeeded, we were just stubborn enough to believe we could.
The truth is, Legacy Lane was never just a business.
It was built on family. On friendship. On trust.
On countless late nights, early mornings, coffee fueled ideas, tears in storage rooms, celebrations over impossible victories, and the kind of partnership that can only come from loving and believing in each other completely.
We often look back and laugh at those younger versions of ourselves walking into meetings with what sounded like a crazy idea, an exotic fibre processing mill in New Brunswick.
Who did we think we were?
Apparently two women stubborn enough to do it anyway.
With the support of incredible people, funding agencies, organizations who believed in us, and more determination than was probably reasonable, Legacy Lane Fiber Mill was born in 2006.
What followed were years that tested us in every possible way. Years of learning as we went. Years of wondering how we would make payroll, make loan payments, make equipment work, make enough product, make enough time. Years of lugging fleece, fixing machinery, attending shows, raising families, and somehow figuring out how to keep moving forward.
Moments when being women in manufacturing and agriculture meant being underestimated before we'd even begun speaking.
Moments when quitting would have been the easier option but was never really in our vocabulary.
After thirteen long hard years (2006-2019), we made that final payment on our ACOA loan, the very loan that helped establish Legacy Lane Fiber Mill.
We still remember clinking our glasses together that evening, looking at each other with a mixture of disbelief, pride, exhaustion, and gratitude.
HELL YES, we did it.
Amy and I have always known that we are only a fraction of that accomplishment.
Our parents, families, staff, clients, friends, community. You complete that equation. You always have.
Legacy Lane Yarn and Gift grew from those same roots. What started as an extension of our milling business soon became a gathering place. A place where fibre enthusiasts found their people. Where workshops created friendships. Where conversations started over yarn and somehow lasted for years. Where customers became friends and friends became family.
We have had the privilege of working alongside some incredible staff over the years. To every person who worked beside us, believed in the vision, cared for our customers, taught classes, unpacked boxes, answered questions, and became part of the Legacy Lane family, thank you.
To our families who sacrificed evenings, weekends, holidays, and countless conversations that revolved around alpacas, yarn, inventory, machinery, markets, and ideas, thank you for lending us your strength when ours was running low.
To our customers, clients, and friends who chose to shop local, support local, learn with us, create with us, and cheer us on for over two decades, thank you.
You believed in us. You showed up. You made this possible.
As this chapter ends, we do so feeling overwhelmingly blessed, proud, humbled, and grateful.
But this is not goodbye.
In many ways, it feels like we're coming full circle.
Legacy Lane's story began in 2006 in the basement of Amy's family home in Markhamville. Before there was a storefront, before there were shelves of yarn and rooms full of makers, there were just two sisters, a dream, a fibre mill and a whole lot of determination.
It's only fitting that this next chapter brings us back home.
While our Main Street storefront will be closing, Legacy Lane will continue to operate at a grassroots level from our studio in Markhamville.
There's something incredibly special about returning to the place where it all began. Not because we're starting over, but because we're carrying twenty years of experience, friendships, lessons, and memories back to the very roots of Legacy Lane. It feels less like an ending and more like a homecoming.
We still believe deeply in community development, supporting local makers, sharing knowledge, and helping keep fibre arts thriving in New Brunswick and beyond.
You will still find us at shows, teaching workshops, building community, championing the fibre industry that has given us so much, and continuing to create the connections that have always been at the heart of Legacy Lane.
The storefront may be closing, but the story is far from over.
In fact, it feels like we're coming back to where the story was always meant to continue.
The address may change, but Legacy Lane is not disappearing. It's simply evolving.
Truthfully, we're excited.
Excited to see what new opportunities appear when we create room for them and for the things we haven't even imagined yet.
Because if the last twenty one years have taught us anything, it's that some of the best adventures begin with a slightly unreasonable idea and enough stubbornness to see it through.
