The Wedding Seamstress

The Wedding Seamstress I am a professional seamstress who specializes in wedding gown alterations. I work from my home near Sylvan Lake by appointment only. Ah...the wedding dress.

One of the most expensive, beautiful, and memorable pieces of finery you'll ever wear. It will be cried on, admired, danced in, hugged, and otherwise well loved in all ways. Wedding gowns are what I do. I will not hem your pants. I will not patch your jeans. I will make the most important dress that you will ever wear, fit you like it was made for you. This is what I do, and I do it well. Keep calm, and trust your seamstress!

This was a dress that required some major alterations! She was between sizes when ordering the dress so the shop sized up (perfectly normal!), between the time of ordering the gown and receiving the gown, the bride unintentionally lost some weight and resulted in a gown that was roughly 6-8 sizes too big for her.

Every. Single. Seam. Of this gown was taken apart, brought in, reshaped, and put back together. The chiffon overlay on the bodice was removed in order to access the princess seams that run vertically over the bust and torso and laid back overtop and gathered. The side seams were brought in, the back zipper was brought in. The dress cup had a bust reduction. The armscye’s were reshaped and cut down. The peek-a-book lace at the bust was recut and aligned to account for the narrowing of dress. The straps were shortened, the skirts were hemmed, and the train was bustled.

….and then it was perfect!

An Italian elopement? Yes please! 😍

Mikayla and I worked on her gown(s) over the winter. She had a civil ceremony in Alberta (pics of THAT dress are for another day!) and then they ran off for an intimidate vow exchange and honeymoon in Positano 🇮🇹

She’s a dream!

For this before and after, I hemmed the skirts and tailored the body, removed the sleeves and reshaped the armscye so it looked like the original design was a sleeveless gown. The bride loved everything about the original dress but couldn’t get behind the sleeves for her destination wedding. She traveled 1.5hrs each way for her fittings and walked down the aisle in her dream gown! 😍

A little behind the scenes look of altering a beaded lace gown!

The bodice was taken in and then blended into a 5x layer skirt and all the lace reapplied for a perfectly seamless finish! *Chef’s kiss*
