A new addition to the shop- this incredible 1970s Droopy & Browns pink cotton ruffle collar maxi dress!

Droopy & Browns was founded in York in the early 1970s by Angela Holmes, her husband Keith and her brother Jonathan. When it came to picking the name, Jonathan told The York Times in 2003 that Angela said ‘I want it to be Edwardian: all droopy and brown… that’s what we’ll call it – Droopy & Browns’.
Angela used Collier and Campbell prints in the early days of the business but was later able to design her own. It expanded to become an international brand in the 80s and 90s. It was known for high quality clothing and unusual designs. She always used local craftspeople in the production of her garments.
Angela was also a singer, performer and the lead vocalist of the band The Mandrakes. She died from cancer in 2000 at age 50 (Keith had died in 1995) and the company closed in 2003 when their bank prematurely recalled their loans.
The Droopy & Browns look drew inspiration from the Victorian and Edwardian periods, and epitomized romance, femininity and flamboyance. Today, the brand is a cult favourite and much sought after by vintage collectors.

There are lots of brand promo images from the 80s and 90s, but we haven’t seen any from the 1970s. Do share if you have any!

How unbelievably cool is this 80s Krizia dark wash denim jean dress??? 🤯
It has this amazing lightning bolt style neckline and silver metallic top stitching. Something about it is very Jem and the Holograms. Do you see it too?! We would love to see someone style this. And it could be yours! Online now 😊
