in engineering, a single point of failure is the one part that if it breaks, takes the entire system down with it.
i realized my financial life was built on exactly that. one paycheck. one employer. one decision made by someone else that i had zero control over.
and we call that stable. we call it the responsible, safe choice.
it isn’t. it’s a single point of failure nobody ever stress tested.
the moment i saw it that way, i stopped feeling secure in “secure.” got laid off in 2020 and decided that was the last time i built my whole life on something that could disappear in a 15 minute meeting.
so i started building something of my own from my phone, in the windows between raising two toddlers with zero help. not out of greed. out of the most basic instinct there is. don’t let one thing you can’t control hold up your entire life.
that reframe changed everything. replaced my salary. bought a house. still home with my girls every single day, and never again dependent on a single point of failure i didn’t build myself.
