Our US shipping update is that we're turning the US market off midday Wednesday.

There are new import data requirements starting October 22nd 2026 and unfortunately the cost\time\admin impacts means we gotta make the call.

The good news is that starting October 22nd all imports of children's items will need to provide cpsc safety testing results to enter the country. The bad news is that retailers (who import) can't use any documentation a brand might have and certifications like gots (that test for the same and more) aren't accepted either.

The bad news is that a lot of smaller retailers and brands won't be available as options anymore 😭

Have you peeped Villervalla's new rainbow-esque stripe, Kalahari? I brought in a limited number of Winter Jackets and Snow Suits in it, along with fleeces and a shirt, dress, leggings, and socks. Serengeti stripe and the adorable Savannah print have arrived as well.

Maybe time for some long sleeves now that the weather is finally cooler?

Aanii all my friends and relatives. Jana ndizhinkaaz. Toronto ndoonjibaa. Fraser ndoodem.

Hello all my friends and relatives. Jana is what I am called. Toronto is where I am from. Fraser is my clan.

I have begun to learn Anishinaabimowin because I was tired of not saying words because I didn't feel confident in how to pronounce them. And that was a solvable problem!

Because reconciliation is more than an orange shirt and should be more than a colonial Federal holiday framework popped on top of today.

Today is both Orange Shirt Day – Every Child Matters and the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. We wear Orange Shirts to recognize that Phyllis Jack Webstad had her orange shirt taken from her when she was forced to start residential school.

Today provides an opportunity to deepen Canada’s understanding of the inter-generational effects of residential schools and to reflect on their enduring legacy as part of the ongoing journey toward truth, healing, and reconciliation.

Wearing an Orange Shirt. Remember that Every Child Matters. That is a beginning. It is not the work in and of itself.

Have you read the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action? How many books by First Nations, Inuit, and Métis writers have you read this year? How many shows? Movies? Are you comfortable pronouncing names in Indigenous languages that are local to you?

When Toronto opened Biidaasige Park last year I avoided talking about it because I didn't feel confident pronouncing it. And then I realized that I wasn't helpless. I could choose to learn how.

Last fall I took the Introduction to Anishinaabemowin course from Outdoor Learning School. I'm taking it again this fall.

What steps are you taking to decolonize and re-Indigenize your knowledge and way of being?

This year my big winter gear advise is to make sure things are waterproof! With El Niño it's hard to predict what exactly our winter is going to look like, but wetter than average seems like a pretty safe bet.

There are two things to consider when it comes to "waterproof". The first is the fabric itself. The second is what is going on with the seams - because not all seam treatment has the same end impact!

Seams can range from untaped/not treated (giving you the stink eye MEC Toaster Suit), to having critically taped seams (Jan & Jul, Therm), to having fully taped seams (Smafolk, Villervalla, and Reima around these parts!).

Why do the seams matter? Because if it's a wet, slushy day and the seams are not sealed, then water can get in along the seam. It kind of defeats the point of winter gear if it can only handle one type of winter weather (cold and dry).

It creates a gap in expectation - parents think they bought a suit with a good waterproof rating only to have their kid end up wet and cold more often than not. It means less time outdoors playing and more time inside while your gear dries.

Here are a few of the Reima Winter Jacket and Snow Suit options we have in stock right now. And you know what? They all come with fully taped seams, because gear is no good if it doesn't work in real life conditions.

This year we've added some of Reima's wool options to our winter and rain gear lineups. My general rule of thumb is when...

This year we've added some of Reima's wool options to our winter and rain gear lineups. My general rule of thumb is when in doubt, layer! And wool is a great option for that.

We have several options - a one piece suit, joggers, and zip sweaters. These are perfect for layering under rain gear for cool and wet days or under winter gear for truly cold days or as an extra layer for kids who like being warm and snuggly.

I'm not sure what our El Niño winter is going to bring weather-wise, but your safest bets for gear that works well for the season is to look for waterproof ratings (including fully taped seams!!) and the ability to layer.

These adorable tiny radishes remind me of cherries from afar. Anyone else?

I ate a bag of delicious BC cherries earlier this summer and I'll be dreaming out them until next summer.
