10 years ago today I was fired.
I read their email then sighed with relief and instantly felt my body relax.
Not the reaction I expected of myself, but it was telling… I was glad it was over.
Following years of broken promises at work, I had finally decided to stand up for myself. I asked them to make good on all those promises. Their response was that email.
Right then I decided that was my last full-time job working for someone else.
Moving forward I was putting 100% of my time, energy and talent into myself and my own clients. I have never looked back. There have been no more toxic workplaces, no more dealing with egos, deception, pettiness or politics. It’s just me and my dog, peacefully working from home.
I’ve worked in fashion for 35 years now, and I still love what I do and I am crazy good at it. Working directly with clients is so rewarding and fulfilling, both personally and professionally. These past 10 years have been the happiest and most satisfying of my career.
I am so grateful and proud that I stood up for myself all those years ago. It changed everything.
