5 DETAILS THAT ELEVATE PERFORMANCE WARDROBE

💫 THE PERFECT PROPORTION
💫 ART OF FABRIC SELECTION
💫 POWER OF A SINGLE DETAIL
💫 IMPORTANCE OF PRECISION
💫 THE FINISHING TOUCH

Because true elegance is in the details

Design and craftsmanship makes the difference between ordinary and extraordinary and it is all in the details, this is what can make an exceptional performance wardrobe truly exceptional.

It goes beyond beautiful design - it’s the finer elements that transform a garment from ordinary to extraordinary. From proportion and fabric selection to thoughtful details, precision tailoring and impeccable finishing,

As always, we’d love to hear your thoughts and if you’d like deeper insight on these maxims feel free to DM us.

THE PERFECT PROPORTION

It’s not just what you wear, but how it’s balanced.

The relationship between shoulders, waist, length, volume completely transforms a silhouette.

ART OF FABRIC SELECTION

Beautiful fabric isn’t always the right fabric.

Consider how fabric drapes, moves and responds to the body and light - it goes beyond colour and texture.

POWER OF A SINGLE DETAIL

One design element is all you need.

An unexpected detail, distinctive cuff, sculptural construction, or well placed embellishment can give a garment its identity.

IMPORTANCE OF PRECISION

The difference is in the fit

A few millimetres can change how a garment sits, moves and flatters. Precision tailoring creates perfect fit and effortless appearance.

THE FINISHING TOUCH

What you don’t see can make all the difference.

Quality of construction, internal finishing, thoughtful engineering all determine how confidently and comfortably a garment performs.

Today’ the iconic photograph “The American Girl In Italy’ (1951) by photographer Ruth Orkin goes to Auction so for today’s we celebrate Ninalee Craig ‘ Jinx’ Allen (1927-2018) its subject who was also our mentor and muse.

Ninalee Craig was an iconic luminescent personality - she was physically stunning. Intellectually provocative, indefatigably inspiring with her wanderlust spirit accompanied by her wicked sense of humour

Ninalee Craig and Rosemarie Umetsu met in 2007 and it was an instant electric connection. From there on forth it was a mutually inspiring bond till Ninalee’s death in 2018. Between Ninalee travelling the world and sending postcards and images that she knew resonated with our brand,Atelier Rosemarie Umetsu, to us designing specific pieces and collections inspired by Ninalee.

As a patron of the arts and a significant presence in the classical music world it was she who insisted that we should be designing specifically for classical artists and a big part of the reason why we carved the niche that we have today.

5 COLOUR TRUTHS FOR THE STAGE

💫 LIGHT CHANGES EVERYTHING
💫 DISTANCE CHANGES COLOUR
💫 THE BACKGROUND MATTERS
💫 FABRIC CHANGES COLOUR
💫 COLOUR COMMUNICATES

Today we look at 5 Colour truths when it comes to choosing performance wardrobe because your best colour offstage may not be your best colour onstage.

Everyone has been told some version of “this is your colour” based on complexion, hair, eyes or seasonal colour analysis. But stage colour has a completely different job to do.

Stage lighting can dramatically alter how a colour reads. What looks rich and dimensional in daylight may become flat, washed out or unexpectedly intense under theatrical lighting.

When choosing colours for stage don’t just ask
“Does this colour look good on me?”Instead ask
“What does this colour do for me onstage?”

As always, we’d love to hear your thoughts and if you’d like deeper insight on these maxims feel free to DM us.

LIGHT/LIGHTING CHANGES EVERYTHING

Your colour doesn’t perform alone.

Stage light can rewrite your colour - the colour of the light matters and transform what the audience sees.

DISTANCE CHANGES COLOUR

What flatters close-up can lose presence across a hal.

Subtle shades that flatter beautifully at close range can lose their impact across a concert hall. Onstage, colour needs enough presence to register from the back of the room.

THE BACKGROUND MATTERS

Colour is always seen in context.

A beautiful shade can disappear against dark curtains, wood panelling or an orchestra dressed in black. Contrast with the environment can be as important as contrast with your complexion.

FABRIC CHANGES COLOUR

Colour I depends on if’s medium.

Colour never exists independent of fabric. Texture, surface and movement can deepen, brighten, soften or transform how a colour reads onstage.

Velvet absorbs light, satin reflects it, sequins scatter it and sheer fabrics allow light to pass through.

COLOUR COMMUNICATES

Colour tells your story.

Colour carries mood, energy and visual weight. The right stage colour should complement not only you, but also the repertoire, occasion and pre
