Rescued Bears We make unique items of clothing using dead stock fabrics and materials upcycled from clothing or linens. Learn more and adopt a new friend via our Etsy page!

Rescued Bears began with a mission to reuse and recycle abandoned plush toys. It has since developed into an adoption agency for stuffed animals. Each rescued bear (or friend) comes with a hand-knit sweater or scarf, a pair of overalls, or a hand sewn bow tie, a unique biography, and Rescued Bears postcards. Before leaving for their (new) furever homes, each friend undergoes a vigorous sterilization process to ensure they meet our hygiene standards. Rescued Bears is committed to environmental sustainability, and all of our clothing and accessories are made of recycled materials.

From the brink of obscurity

Three tote bags, a remnant of black velvet and a torn up piece of needlework - just a pile of stuff.

We like that we brought everything together and it’s now a haori jacket.

Fibre content? —- we think wool for the needlework, cotton black velvet, and unknowable for the totes. Lining is rayon sateen.

More Fun

Lots of quality wool bundles from FABCYCLE Deadstock Fabric Shop - and although it was a challenge to make it all work together it was a satisfying make.

A pop over vest with yellow ties and a mini pop over poncho with button closures. Both are fully lined.

Fun? Yes it was.

FABCYCLE Deadstock Fabric Shop offers “Fun” packs - bundles of miscellaneous fabrics and sample books of swatches.

It’s all very random so I thought I would try to show what random looks like.

I made a pop over vest with side ties and a short topper to add more randomness.

I looked through a book of art for colour combination inspiration.

All wool or wool blends - each piece is fully lined.

FABCYCLE Deadstock Fabric Shop offers “Fun” packs - bundles of miscellaneous fabrics and sample books of swatches.

Fall has arrived

The vintage needlepoints are perfect insulating backs while looking really good on our Fall jackets.

It’s always a guessing game as to what we will discover in deadstock and/or used fabrics so we were over the moon with the fab wools and corduroy we found.

A tree fell and we heard it

We witnessed a tree fall on the terrace of our condo building. We went to alert building management but it was Sunday so the office was closed with a sign on the door - “Please contact the security office when this office is closed”.

The security guard was sitting bolt upright in the chair but he was sound asleep.

We borrowed a shovel from a neighbour and with her help we replanted the tree and named it Groot.
