Demna knew how to make a statement.

Presented on a flooded runway under LED skies simulating natural disaster, the Balenciaga FW20 Pagoda Collar Coat balances apocalyptic narrative with precise, Margiela-inspired proportion. Featuring an exaggerated standing neck and tailored silhouette, it links Demna’s Margiela heritage directly to modern Balenciaga house codes.

When commercial branding becomes Y2K pop culture history.

John Galliano took Dior’s iconic 1999 perfume slogan off the counter and re-engineered it for the FW01 runway, constructing this tank like a boxing jersey complete with “World Champion 1947” on the back.

DIY by Archival Toronto x Shoppe and Tailor Studios

Class 3 — Upcycling Denim

Deconstruct. Reconstruct. Create.

Inspired by Martin Margiela’s SS99 Reconstructed Artisanal Denim, Class 3 of our DIY series teaches you how to transform vintage denim into a 1-of-1 reworked garment.

We will provide vintage denim and guide you through creative ways to deconstruct it, teaching you how to sew different garments together to construct a brand new, one-of-a-kind piece that is uniquely yours.

This class is great for intermediate students looking to make their own creative garment. This course will cover strategic pattern mapping, heavy-duty cutting, and sewing techniques using recycled denim from old garments.

Focus: Patchworking, deconstruction & garment assembly
