🚨 GIVEAWAY 🚨

Juice Be Yourself.

Leave it to me to decide on putting together a giveaway for Asian Heritage Month on a random Wednesday night. So to celebrate the remaining few days, I said...why not!

We launched our nostalgic Juice Box and MJ tile charms 2 years ago, and they sold out 3 times over. We are working on some new designs for the Fall/Winter [they're going to be good!], but before we officially launch those, these are perfect for this season.

We are giving away 3 charms. To enter, all you gotta do is:

🧃 Follow
🧃 Comment & tell us which one you want [1 entry] or tag a friend. Every comment = 1 entry.
🧃 5 bonus entries if you reshare the post to your IG stories.

And that's it! The giveaway will run until 11:59pm May 31st. Winners will be drawn on June 1st! This is only open to residents of Canada. Good luck! 🤞🏼

Halfway through Asian Heritage Month and I realized I haven't posted anything yet.

Asian Heritage Month in Canada was created to recognize the contributions, history, and culture of Asian communities who helped shape this country, many while navigating the very real experience of building a life in a place thay didn't always make space for them.

As a Canadian-born Chinese person, I think a lot of us grew up in that weird middle ground where we were too Asian at school and too western at family gatherings.

It took me a long time to really appreciate my culture, and honestly, that only really came from looking at my parents' generation differently.

A big part of that realization shaped House of Tytan too. Our logo, for example, was intentionally designed to resemble a traditional Chinese family emblem. And the word "house" means more than just a fashion industry reference. This business was literally built inside my parents' house, around family, creativity, and community.

When we first launched, we were also one of the only brands in Toronto really incorporating traditional cultural fabrics into modern accessories in the way we did. At the time, it honestly felt niche and maybe even a little risky. But looking back now, I realize it was probably one of earliest ways I was trying to reconnect with my culture, even before I fully understood that myself.

This Mother's Day is a little different for our family this year, but extra special because it is a reminder of God's sovereignty and faithfulness.

While we celebrate the moms in our lives, it is also just as important to hold space for:

• Those who have lost their mothers and find today's silence heavy.

• Those who are longing to be mothers and are navigating a difficult journey.

• The aunts, mentors, and friends who mother us in their own beautiful ways.

However you are feeling today, whether celebratory, somber, or a mix of both, just know that you aren't alone!

Something Old, Something New.

My love for vintage designer ties runs deep because it's a piece of history and represents a specific moment in time.

Over the past 6 years, we have reclaimed so many pieces of the past and breathing new life into them.

This Givenchy and Dior tie were both almost 4" wide, but we scaled them down to 2.5" for our client, making them more proportionate to his body.

I know everyone has at least 1 item in their closet they love, but might just need a little refresh. So let us help save it from bring tossed into another landfill.

Happy Earth Day!

Life Lately.

The rumors are true...I did, in fact, go back to corporate. Maybe not in the way most of you think, but certainly in the 9-5 kinda way. Well, 9-6, actually. Why? Let's just say, this short term 'pain' is for long term gain.

So what does this mean for my businesses? In general, nothing. It's business as usual, just refined. Meaning I am going to be very mindful of the types of projects we will be taking on this year.

I already turned down a pretty big opportunity, and truthfully, it felt liberating 😅 Value doesn't come from doing EVERY job, it comes from doing the RIGHT job.

This year is unexpectedly shaping up to look a little different, but where's the growth in status quo?

Heritage Reclaimed.

Last month, .beyond.bedtime [a wonderful Canadian author!] reached out to ask me about some design advice about a jacket her grandmother made.

The original idea was just to shorten it and make it into a bolero-style jacket. From there, we used the remaining fabric to create 2 scrunchies.

Recently, I posted our custom Cross TY, which Catherine was intrigued by so she asked to see if there was any fabric left, and we just so happen to have one last remnant to do it. We played around with the position of the frog closure, but ultimately decided to sew it on an angle to resemble the placement of the buttons on a traditional Cheongsam.

What started as just one item became a mini collection, which I love because no fabric was wasted! It's not always about buying new - but reimagining something new.

There is so much beauty and, in this case, meaning to redesigning something you already have and turning it into something truly one-of-a-kind.

Different Directions 🗺

Whether in life or in business, there is one very important thing you need in both: Your tribe. Those who ground you, challenge you, and inspire you.

We shot these photos a few years ago for our new "Anomaly" launch, and I couldn't help but chuckle at how I met each of these people. From young punks to professional acquaintances and an embarrassing story on how I did NOT 'hit on' a complete stranger. 😅 Ill let you decide which story belonged to who lol.

The point is this:

Find those who find you. Trust those who trust you. Respect those who respect you. Love those who love you.

They may not always be who you thought, but that's the funny thing about life. I am so grateful for this community and all the offline friendships that have been created.

The Cross TY.

We first launched our Cross TY back in 2017. It was inspired by a photo I saw of the King of Rock, Elvis, and something I hadn't seen in the market at the time. Since then, we've evolved the design by using various fabrics and shapes.

This custom piece was designed for the very talented Telisa of using a beautiful metallic mesh and finished with a vintage rose button.

Unlike a bow tie, this design is meant to sit under the collar. I've loved every version that we have made and very much a unisex design so I hope to see more of these on our clients this year! It's classic silhouette, yet fun & unique!
