An Archipelago is a chain of islands that cluster together to make up a united whole. It’s a beautiful concept that not only gives shape to the idea that smaller parts have their place in a grander scheme, but it inspires images of islands and sandy beaches!
While trying to develop my own brand, I have learned firsthand how hard it is to pattern draft, cut and sew - even hand embroider or bead - I have learned that the process is long and not glamorous. It is, however, beautiful and self-satisfying. Looking overseas was discouraging because it only made me increasingly aware that the state of the fashion industry is nothing less than a humanitarian crisis.
Archipelago Swim is committed to a transparent supply and production chain that will contribute to the growing movement in eco friendly and ethically made clothing. Every swimsuit is made right here in Toronto by me and my partner. This season, Archipelago has expanded its offerings to include high performance fabrics made by Carvico in Italy with 78% recycled pre-consumer waste. This season we are working in classic black, but with support and growth we want to continue to offer colours and prints in recycled fabrics. Having a healthy planet is a human right, too, and Archipelago is committed to stepping up to find a solution!
