It all started with a dream.

A little idea between a mother and daughter — to create something meaningful together. Something rooted in nature, made with our own hands, and built with heart.

We had no big team behind us. No marketing department, production crew, web designer or fancy facility.

We just had each other, an idea we believed in, and the willingness to figure it out as we went.

And that’s exactly what we’ve done.

We create our own recipes. We infuse our herbal oils. We plant seeds and watch them become the herbs and flowers that eventually find their way into our products. We forage, harvest, dry and prepare botanicals by hand.

We formulate, blend, pour, weigh and fill. We design our labels, package every product, photograph everything, manage inventory and source our ingredients and supplies.

We even sat down and figured out how to build our own website.

Every social media post you see? That’s us too. Every message answered, every order prepared, every new product dreamed up, every mistake learned from and every little victory celebrated — just the two of us.

Sometimes I look at everything we’ve created and think about how differently it began.

Before there were jars and bottles lined up on shelves, there were seeds in the soil.

Before there were labels, there were handwritten recipes and ideas.

Before there was a website, there was simply a dream.

And perhaps the most beautiful part is that I get to build that dream beside my daughter.

One day, the products will change. The garden will grow again and again. There will be new recipes, new ideas and new chapters for Hummingbird Organics.

But I hope we never lose what made this special in the first place:

Two people. Four hands. One shared dream.

A mother and daughter building something together that we can look back on one day and say,

“We did that. We built that together.”

And that will always mean more to me than anything we could ever put in a jar.

It’s been a rough day for me. My daughter encourages me to write …

Note.. YOU ARE NOT ALONE!! ♥️

I don’t talk about this part of my life very often, but I think there is power in being honest about the things we usually try so hard to hide.

I live with anxiety, PTSD, and panic attacks.

And when I say live with, I mean exactly that.

There are days when my mind and body react to danger that isn’t actually standing in front of me. Days when my heart races, my chest tightens, my thoughts spiral, and every instinct in my body is screaming that something is wrong—even when logically, I know I’m safe.

That’s one of the hardest things to explain about anxiety and PTSD.

You can know you’re safe and still not feel safe.

You can understand what’s happening and still not be able to simply switch it off.

A panic attack doesn’t care that you’ve told yourself to calm down. PTSD doesn’t disappear because the traumatic experience is over. Anxiety doesn’t always listen to logic.

And none of that means I’m not trying.

I am.

I work on myself. I learn. I use the tools I’ve been given. I challenge my thoughts. I push myself through uncomfortable moments. I try to understand my triggers instead of running from them. I celebrate progress that probably looks insignificant to anyone who hasn’t lived inside a nervous system that sometimes feels like it’s constantly preparing for something terrible to happen.

Some days I do incredibly well.

Other days, something I thought I had conquered knocks the wind out of me again.

That can be discouraging.

Because healing isn’t this beautiful straight line where every day you become a slightly better version of yourself until one day you’re “fixed.”

Sometimes healing is taking ten steps forward and three steps back.

Sometimes it’s recognizing a panic attack sooner than you used to.

Sometimes it’s doing something while you’re terrified instead of waiting until you’re no longer afraid.

Sometimes it’s simply getting through a difficult day without allowing it to convince you that you’ve lost all the progress you’ve made.

I’m sharing this because I think social media has made us very good at showing people the polished pieces of our lives. The accomplishments. The smiles. The things we’re proud of.

But there are human beings behind those pictures.

And this is part of the human being behind mine.

I am strong, capable, determined, and still sometimes scared.

I can help other people and still have days when I struggle to help myself.

I can understand mental health and still experience mental illness.

I can be healing and still hurt.

Those things are not contradictions.

I’m not sharing this because I’ve given up on myself.

I’m sharing it because I haven’t.

Every single time anxiety tells me I can’t and I try anyway, I’m fighting for myself.

Every time PTSD pulls me backward and I find my way into the present again, I’m fighting for myself.

Every time a panic attack convinces my body that I’m in danger and I make it through to the other side, I’m reminded that I’ve survived every one I’ve ever had.

Maybe one day these things will have a much smaller place in my life. I hope they do.

But until then, I refuse to be ashamed of the fact that this is part of my story.

Mental health struggles don’t erase strength.

Sometimes, they’re where you discover just how much strength you actually have.

Hummingbird Organics is rooted right here in the West Kootenays, surrounded by the forests, mountains, gardens, and wild spaces that continually remind us just how much nature has to offer.

Many of the plants and botanicals we work with are grown, gathered, or sustainably harvested with care. Others are thoughtfully sourced when they aren't available locally.

Every ingredient is chosen with purpose, and our products are handcrafted in small batches rather than mass produced.

There is something incredibly special about knowing the plants you work with — watching them grow, harvesting them at the right time, drying and preparing them, creating herbal infusions, and eventually seeing those botanicals become something that will find its way into another person's home.

That connection to the process matters to us.

Hummingbird Organics was never meant to be about simply putting products into jars and bottles. It's about respecting traditional herbal practices, continuing to learn, working thoughtfully with what nature provides, and creating products we're genuinely proud to put our name on.

Happy 18th Birthday my Boy!!💙🎉💙🎉

Today you turn 18, and I honestly don’t know how the years went by so quickly. It feels like just yesterday I was holding you in my arms, and now I look at you and see this incredible young man standing in front of me.

Being your mom has been one of the greatest honors and privileges of my life. I am so incredibly proud of the person you have become—not just because of the things you’ve accomplished, but because of who you are at your core.

You have such a genuine heart. You care deeply, you love deeply, and when something matters to you, you give it your whole heart. You are compassionate, passionate, thoughtful, strong, and fiercely loyal to the people you love. Those are qualities that can’t be taught, and they are some of the things I admire most about you.

There are so many little pieces of you that make me proud—the way you care about others, the way you stand up for what you believe in, your determination, your sense of humor, your strength, and even the stubbornness that reminds me you know exactly who you are. 💙🫶🏻

As you step into adulthood, I hope you never lose that genuine heart of yours. Stay true to yourself. Chase the things that make you happy, take chances, make mistakes, learn from them, and never be afraid to create a life that feels right for you.

Rooted In Mother Nature

There is something deeply humbling about standing in the middle of the wilderness, surrounded by everything Mother Nature has created.

Long before there were stores, laboratories, or bottles on shelves, there were forests, meadows, mountains, roots, flowers, berries and herbs. Nature has always provided — and we believe our responsibility is to approach those gifts with knowledge, gratitude and, above all, respect.

Foraging has become such a meaningful part of Hummingbird Organics. There is something incredibly grounding about walking through the mountains and forests of the Kootenays, recognizing the plants growing beneath our feet, knowing their traditional uses, and carefully gathering only what we need.

We have a deep and profound respect for Mother Nature and everything she provides. When we harvest from the wild, we never look at it as simply “taking ingredients.” We are entering an ecosystem that was thriving long before we arrived and will hopefully continue thriving long after we leave.

We harvest thoughtfully. We take only what is needed. We leave plenty behind for the plant to regenerate, for wildlife, for pollinators, and for the next season. Some things are meant to be admired and left exactly where they are.

Many of the herbs and botanicals that find their way into Hummingbird Organics products begin here — growing wild beneath the sun and rain, or carefully tended in our own gardens. They are gathered by hand, dried, infused, blended and transformed into the products we are so proud to create.

There is no factory behind Hummingbird Organics.

There are hands stained from berries and herbs.
There are baskets filled after long walks through the bush.
There are plants hanging to dry.
There are jars slowly infusing on shelves.
There is dirt under my fingernails and countless hours spent learning from the natural world around us.

And we wouldn’t have it any other way.

This is more than making products for us. It is about keeping alive a connection between people and the land — remembering that some of the most extraordinary things we have been given are often growing quietly right outside our doors.

Mother Nature provides the ingredients.

Our job is simply to honour them.
