It’s been a minute!

Life is SO busy, it feels like all we do is eat, sleep feed babies and change diapers. Now that the weather is getting really nice again, we’re spending tons of time outside, which we all love!

The twins are hitting a growth spurt and eating so much, and are quite a bit fussier than usual the last week or so. Thankfully sleep is still going well, so at least I’m well rested 🥴🥲

Spotlight on Weston this time! He did have an adjustment period when the twins first came, which I fully expected, and we’re still going through it somewhat, but he has been doing SO GOOD the last few weeks, we’re just so proud of him! He loves to bring the babies toys, or help with bottles/soothers, and best yet, loves to help me pick out their clothes for the day!

I don’t venture out too much with all 3 on my own, because getting everyone in and out of car seats/in and out of the truck can be quite an undertaking, but today we decided to take a walk up to Tim Hortons (only about 500m but that’s still an adventure lol). He begged to ride his bike, which he has done to the ice cream shop next door, but never farther than that and only when James was with us. So I laid down some rules and gave it a shot, and he did amazing!! Rode his bike all the way there staying beside the stroller the whole time, and following my directions perfectly! The scary part for me was crossing over the highway to go to Salvation Army, but he patiently waited until I said go, and crossed quickly and carefully both times, I couldn’t be prouder!

It was a win win for us all; I got to get out of the house for a bit, Weston got a treat, and the babies got a snooze in the stroller!

Most of the days are still long, busy and exhausting, but now and then there come days like today where I get out and remember that things will get easier, this stage won’t last forever.

T.W.O..M.O.N.T.H.S.

Whenever people find out we have twins and a 2.5 year old, the first thing they always ask is “are you getting any sleep?” And the answer is surprisingly yes! The twins sleep way better than Weston ever did, so whil we do still get up a couple time a night, we’re also able to get some decent sleep between!

The babies have recently started smiling, which is oh so sweet 😍😍 both of them are already trying to roll, they just want to catch up to their big brother as soon as possible! They love outside naps, and staring out windows enjoying the sunshine!

They haven’t been weighed or measured recently, but they continue to grow quickly, they’re stretching out 0-3 month sleepers already! Their first shots are next week, and I’m anxious to see exactly how big they’re getting!

Jameson!

We found out when I was 24 weeks pregnant that Jameson would have a cleft lip and possibly palate. This was a surprising diagnosis, but thanks to the amazing ultrasound technology these days we were able to have several scans before he was born, and meet with many different doctors and specialists to learn about what would come. I am so glad we had this time to prepare ourselves, as I can’t imagine being thrown into the busyness that came in the first few weeks postpartum without bending mentally prepared!!

Jameson is being seen by occupational therapist (for feeding), dietitian, physiotherapist (he has some torticollis unrelated to the cleft), paediatricians, orthodontist, speech pathologist, ENT, audiologist, and plastic surgeon!! This has made for a very busy few weeks!!

The main thing everyone told us at our prenatal appointments was that he would probably have some trouble feeding after he was born, and may need to spend some time in the NICU to help with that. However, our boy came out ready to thrive and was successfully drinking from a specialty bottle within 2 hours of being born!! He had a bit of trouble gaining weight the first few weeks, because he has to work so hard to get the milk from the bottle that he was burning more calories than he was getting, but we continued to try different ni**le sizes and when we found the sweet spot he started gaining right away and is now a regular little chunk!

Last week, Jameson started having his nose and lip taped. The nose hook will help shape the cartilage of his nose as he gets older, so that when they do the surgery it will have more of a “normal” shape, rather than one side being flat as it is now! The lip tape pulls the 2 sides of his lip together to stretch the tissue; this is done so that when they do the lip surgery the tissue is already stretched and heals much faster!

Jameson will have his first surgery to repair his lip this summer, at around 6 months. There will be further surgeries as he gets older to repair his palate and to do touch ups, but those will be determined as he grows.

It has been such an adventure learning all about clefts and taking all this on on top of becoming a family of 5! Jameson is such a champ though, he’s a happy, chill little guy despite the busyness that has been his life so far!

Life has certainly gotten more interesting since adding twins! Weston is a great big brother, that wants to hold the babies all the time…even when we’re not watching 😬

We were so busy with appointments the first 4 weeks of their lives, that it feels like we’re really just starting to settle in with the babies. Getting to know their little personalities has been so much fun, and seeing Weston love on them is just so precious!

All the advice we got when we found out we were having twins was “get them on the same routine right away!” so the last few weeks have been spent trying to line up feedings and naps and bedtime to have them sleeping and eating at the same time. This works about 60% of the time!
