The colour edit:

I’ve been working on woven wall hangings lately. It’s a meditative practice for me to just start wrapping, and see where the shape takes me.

These little hangings have found a home at .little.hive, the beautiful store run by fellow creative, and expert curator, Sierra!

If you’re on the coast and haven’t perused her selection, get on it! Such a treat to have a place for local handmade treasures, vintage finds, and ethical brands.

Can something like a small, drawn back curtain really make a difference? Particularly if we aren’t fully separating a space? YES!
Aren’t curtains only for windows? NO!

Draping fabrics can play many roles in softening a space, drawing the eye to where you want it (in this case, up), and impacting the mood of the space- much like lighting.

The illusion of delineation, while keeping the space as open as possible, changes how we read the room.

From the living room, the space still looks and feels as large as it is. From bed, it creates a sense of a of separation, just enough to feel at ease without being cramped. Really leaning into the cozy vibes, without sacrificing breathing room!

Tiny kitchen? No problem. Scaled down dining, opting for all rounded edges, and big impact styling, help a once unused space find a sense of purpose.

This studio kitchen was mostly serving as a drop spot, with seating facing a wall, at the awkward bar height. The tenant wanted a gallery wall, which we mounted around a bistro table that made the dining space feel intentional, even in an oddly shaped pointy room.

The retro vibes didn’t appeal to her, but fighting the heritage building’s personality was a non starter, so instead we embraced the checker floor by adding contrast, bringing it up to date with upholstered swivel chairs, drew the eye up the tall ceiling with tall art, and made the most of a small window by having the seating right next to it, and a floating plant warming the light that streams in!

Warmth, appropriate scale, soft delineation, and playing with a mix of eras, make this more contemporary tenant’s heritage studio feel timeless.

We’ve got vintage, we’re got mcm, and we’ve got new- all hanging out cohesively. This also provides the tenant with a baseline that is easier to layer items into!

Well layered homes don’t come from sticking to one “style”; what’s more important to identify is the way you want it to feel.

Holy moly.
A brief pause to say We Have A One Year Old!

That’s means it’s been almost a year and a half since I dialed things down with TAD.

Thank you to everyone who’s been so accommodating, patient, switched to virtual, and hired me even with a more limited scope temporarily available. I’m finally ready to start building back up to larger time commitments and projects; your continued investment in having me help with your homes means so much.

Your homes hosts your life, your family, your habits and passions. Those things matter, and boy does it feel good to do what I can to help them serve you better, like I’m perpetually doing with my own.

Super cost effective, beginner friendly, great way to cover those old laminate countertops (or build new ones for cheap over plywood!).

Partway through reimagining this incredible ocean view A frame. Waiting on a new coffee table and rug, amongst other things, but wow- she’s come a long way!

The importance of streamlining really can’t be overstated. Does that mean not having anything, or everything being the same? Absolutely not! It means filling the space very intentionally.

Before, this home was crammed full of things. The lack of relationship between items, and many different styles, shapes, knick knacks pulled your eye around the room, to the point where the ocean was an afterthought; now it’s the focal point!

It feel so much lighter in there. Breathing room, space to truly live. It’s really an exceptional property, and I’m so glad I get to help meet its potential!

What’s your style?

I’ve been having a great time helping a client with a gut job of their main bath. They’re looking for something relatively traditional, and we’re set on the white zellige shower, natural stone flooring, and oak vanity- now comes the fine tuning!

Let me know which is your favourite?

Wide open space? Small one, but trying to make it serve many functions? Use to help delineate the space.

The power of a rug in a room can’t be overstated. The size creates the boundary, the texture changes the physical feeling of the room, the colour impacts the lighting and mood of the room, while the pattern (or lack thereof) sets the stylistic tone.

When furnishing from scratch, or wanting to really change things up, I always recommend working from the rug up!
