When this stunning, lace and heavily beaded gown arrived, it was 4 sizes too big for my bride. The dress was size 10, the bride was size 2 😀
4 sizes too big? ❌
300+ gem stones to hand-reapply? ✅
No problem.
Challenge accepted.
While many fear taking down a dress this much, I see it as a chance to create a custom fit. Also the bigger the challenge, the more motivated I am. Why do I love challenges so much, I don’t know but I sure love them. Taking down an elaborately beaded, intricately designed dress by 4+ sizes isn’t just sewing—it’s architectural reconstruction! 🤯
Working with lace and gems is delicate work—every stone has to be removed, the the lace appliqués have to come off, then the sides taken in, re-position the cups, and meticulously hand-sewed every lace appliqué and gem back into place so the pattern remains perfect. ✂️
The result? A dress that feels like it was custom-made for her from the very start. 🤍
She didn’t just walk down the aisle; she SPARKLED. ✨

Today’s M&M Before and After
From “too big” to “perfectly mine”! 👗✨ This dress was at least 5 sizes too large on the upper body and maybe 1 or 2 sizes too large in the lower half.
Given the asymmetrical seam between the black/white upper/lower part of the dress there was no way this dress could have been altered with standard dress alterations. matching the colours and the seams would have never happen with the your standard pulling trough the side seams. It would have been one huge mess and the sloppiest alteration ever. Deconstructing the gown to its last piece was the only way to make this work. The client needed the dress for a special occasion and was on a very tight time line, so there was no time to shop for a new dress. She loved the dress and gave me the green light to do a major “surgery”.
I ripped open every seam, de-constructed to its last piece, re-sized all pieces to the custom measurements of the client, and put it back together to a custom fit. I basically drafted a new custom-sized pattern for each piece of the dress. It was a quite the challenging and time consuming alteration, but normally the more complicated and difficult the project the happier I am.
Seeing this transformation makes it worth every minute I spent working on it!

Today’s M&M Before And After I chose to show you how a simple addition can turn a strapless gown into a dream dress, highlighting this beautiful transformation and personalization.
The versatility how a single dress can transform from a ceremony dress to a reception dress just by adding few custom made elements is quite impressive
My lovely bride had a great vision for her dress. She wanted to add detachable wide lace straps to which she could later attach detachable lace long sleeves. And she wanted a detachable bow for the back of her dress , Fun 🤩
A lot of detachable elements and I am sure not a lot of people noticed it was the same dress.
I absolutely loved making the straps and the sleeves. These projects are extremely time consuming and require extensive knowledge on constructing garments. Knowing where to place the lace appliqués is of high importance, knowing where to place the spots straps and respectfully sleeves would be attaching, what to use to attach each one to the next is also super important. If your seamstress doesn’t have the knowledge or experience how things are done, wardrobe malfunctions are quite possible.
Standard alterations such as small adjustment to the size and length, plus beautiful 7point bustle were also done to the dress.

Adding custom straps, sleeves and the bow are the perfect way to get security, comfort, and style all in one. Which do you prefer: Strapped or Strapless? Sleeves / no sleeves ? What do you think of the bow and the bustle ?

Today’s M & M Before And After is about pregnant bridal alterations
I so much love working on pregnant brides gowns. They sure are challenging at times but that’s the best part of my job, challenging projects allow me to be creative and use all my knowledge on designing and pattern making.
8 years in 2 different fashion design schools and 35+ years of hands on experience in the industry, those challenging projects are more like a game to me.
As someone who’ve seen all different scenarios and 100’s of pregnant brides in my shop I decided that this alteration is best to be done only few days before the wedding. Wedding was on Saturday, I asked the bride to come in for her first fitting on Monday only 5 days before the wedding, the dress was deconstructed, modified and completed by Wednesday. Leaving everything to the last minute is OK only if you are VERY PREGNANT and your baby bump is growing by the minute.
The bodice of the dress was completely detached from the skirt and redesigned to make room for the belly, certain boning was removed completely, other were shortened, bringing the new waist line higher, curved up so it doesn’t cut trough the belly.
Once the bodice was reshaped around the belly the skirt was sewn back to the raised waist line and dress was put back together.
The zipper was removed and replaced by a corset back since the dress was about 5” / 13cm too small on the bust and waist.
Nice bustle was put in to pin the train up.
After my work was done there was no sign of alterations and the bride was really happy with the results as she was feeling way more comfortable in her beautiful dress.

Oh , did I mention the entire alteration was done over the course of 3 days
