I figured it was time for a proper little intro since there are some new faces here… and also because apparently I’ve lived about 17 creative business lives.

I’ve been self-employed since I was 16, which is a cute way of saying I have been making up jobs for myself for a veryyyy long time.

I started out building websites and blogging, had a few other clothing businesses, worked with bands a tonnnn, became a watercolour artist, wrote 3 watercolour books, spent years creating online, and now somehow my happiest place is surrounded by fabric piles, sewing machines, and tiny clothes.

Year After Year is basically the result of all of that… art, design, motherhood, sustainability, colour, nostalgia, and my deep belief that kids’ clothes should be soft, fun, and not aggressively beige.

Right now I’m choosing joy over burnout and building this little brand around what makes me happiest: making colourful, comfortable, small-batch clothing for wild little kiddos.

And sometimes swear words.

People really think handmade means peacefully sipping tea in a sunlit studio while birds chirp outside.

Meanwhile I’m rethreading the machine for the 14th time, playing roulette with a bobbin, seam ripping something I JUST finished, and aggressively whispering “WHY are you doing this to me” at a piece of fabric.

But hey… your kiddos’ clothes were still made with love. Very emotionally complicated love ;)

Not even kidding. Before I sew anything, every piece of fabric gets washed and pre-shrunk first. Cut, washed, dried, *then* it becomes clothing.

It’s extra work… and definitely slows everything down. It might not be the most “efficient” way to run a clothing biz…

But it means you don’t pull it out of the dryer and suddenly it fits a doll instead of your kiddo. 🙃

This is one of those little behind the scenes things that actually makes a big difference in how long something lasts. And guess what? Fast fashion could never! 😛

Would you expect this from kids clothes… or is this new info?
