👀While these questions may feel like a high-stakes guessing game, the repetitive choices are an important part of your exam.

Here’s why your answer matters:
♦Brain vs. machine: Technology gives us a baseline, but "1 or 2" tells us how your brain likes to process the image.
♦Finding the endpoint: When they both look very close, it’s a sign we’ve found your unique prescription.
♦The first choice: Your first instinct is usually the most accurate. Don't overthink it!
♦Pro tip: If they truly look the same, tell us! That’s actually a very helpful answer.

Children don't always realize their vision is blurry because they think everyone sees the world the same way they do. As a result, children can often adapt in ways that can easily be overlooked.

Keep an eye out for these subtle signs:

📺 The Screen Huddle: Sitting right on top of the television or holding tablets directly against their nose just to focus.

🤨 The Permanent Squint: Frequently narrowing their eyes or tilting their head at a weird angle to read a book or look across the room.

🥱 The Constant Rub: Rubbing their eyes constantly during the day, even when they are not tired.

📖 The Page Loser: Losing their place constantly while reading, skipping lines, or using a finger to track every single word.

Book your child's comprehensive back-to-school exam today and give them a head start for the new school year!

🎉We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Kokoro Tsuzuki has joined our team at Northern Lights Optometry!

Inspired by an outreach trip to Senegal, Dr. Tsuzuki developed a strong interest in providing eye care to rural communities not only internationally, but within Canada as well. This passion led her to complete clinical rotations in locations emphasizing ocular disease and primary eye care. Dr. Tsuzuki is excited to bring this experience to the Yukon and help improve access to comprehensive eye care across the North.

📆With the addition of Dr. Tsuzuki, we will be able to offer even greater appointment availability and continue providing the highest level of care our patients have come to expect.
You can check out Dr. Tsuzuki's bio on our website: https://northernlightsoptometry.ca/our-practice/

Please help us give Dr. Tsuzuki a warm Yukon welcome!!

✨June is Cataract Awareness Month, a time to highlight an important health topic.

👀A cataract is when the normally clear lens of the eye becomes cloudy and opaque, most often associated with age. Cataracts can develop gradually, clouding vision and impacting daily life, but early detection can make all the difference. Routine eye exams performed by your optometrist not only help ensure good vision but also assess your overall eye health. Book an appointment with one of our optometrists today!

✨Happy Healthy Vision Month!✨

While we often talk about diet and screen time, one of the most important factors in your eye health is actually your family history.

👀Many serious eye conditions like glaucoma, and age-related macular degeneration can run in the family. The tricky part is that these issues often develop slowly and without any obvious signs in the early stages. If your parents or grandparents experienced vision loss, you might be at a higher risk than you realize.

This month is the perfect time to have a quick chat with your relatives about their eye health history. It is a simple conversation that can give your optometrist the "missing pieces" needed to provide the best possible care for you. Early detection is everything when it comes to preserving your sight.
