Before Toronto’s waterfront got a wellness plan, it got a Triodetic geodesic sphere—and the world’s first permanent IMAX theatre inside it.

LOST TORONTO 001: CINESPHERE

Designed by architect Eberhard Zeidler, the Cinesphere became one of Toronto’s boldest symbols of optimism—a near-perfect spherical space frame inspired by the geodesic principles popularized by Buckminster Fuller.

The first release in our Lost Toronto collection celebrates a landmark that proved Toronto wasn’t afraid to think differently.

Most people don’t notice it the first time.

Joe Carter once wore a Blue Jays jersey that misspelled Toronto as TOROTNO.

He played several innings before anyone caught it.

When I stumbled across the photo again, it reminded me of growing up around Exhibition Stadium, meeting players after games, watching Joe Carter hit that home run, and even travelling to the Netherlands in 1993 and discovering people there actually knew who the Toronto Blue Jays were.

That tiny typo ended up becoming one of my favourite pieces of Toronto sports history.

So I turned it into a shirt.
