No one cares that your brand is sustainable. Here’s why.

Before you come for me; I’m NOT saying your brand shouldn’t be sustainable. It absolutely should be. But today, sustainability alone won’t make people buy from you.

Here’s what happened:

The past few years have destroyed sustainability’s credibility. Loro Piana got linked to sweatshops. Princess Polly - a fast fashion brand - somehow got B Corp certified. Reports came out about “ethical cotton” being picked by child laborers.

The result? People stopped believing sustainability claims. Even brands that were genuinely doing good work, like Asket and E.L.V. Denim, completely dropped their eco-messaging because consumers have sustainability fatigue.

And here’s the thing people forget:

Sustainability isn’t a brand personality. It’s not what makes people connect with you emotionally or feel excited to buy from you. It’s important but it’s just the cherry on top.

So if you’re a sustainable brand struggling to connect with customers, the issue isn’t with your practices but it’s probably your messaging.

In the next post, I’ll give you examples of what to lead with instead. Follow along so you don’t miss it.

Comment “Part 2” if you want us to tag you when it drops.

Quiet brands are becoming impossible to ignore.
Why? Because people are tired of being sold to everywhere they go. And for what? A sea of copy-paste.

Quiet brands don’t depend on aggressive marketing to get attention. They create products with enough character to speak for themselves and attract the right audience naturally.

Their product is their ad.

And that’s the lesson here: design is becoming one of the strongest differentiators for a brand.
Not just because it makes a product look prettier, but because it makes your product memorable, recognisable, and harder to replicate.

And the best part? this is probably the most affordable tool a brand can use to stand out.

We all want a fashion brand that’s big, successful, and recognized.
But the path to getting there isn’t about producing 100 pieces overnight — it’s about learning what works, one step at a time.

The smartest brands test before they invest: they gather feedback, watch how people react, and refine until the product connects.

And sometimes it comes down to the smallest details — a pocket size, the way a fabric feels, or realizing that while you love a design, most of your customers don’t and you’ve just saved yourself $5000 because you didn’t produce 100pcs and tested your niche!

Every single discovery call, we ask the same question.

“When are you hoping to launch?”

The answer tells us so much about where a founder is in their journey. Most of the time, the timeline they have in mind and the timeline that actually works… are very far apart.

And I get it, when you’re excited about your brand, you want to move fast. That energy is everything. But product development has its own rhythm, and it doesn’t really matter how motivated you are.

Here’s what a realistic timeline actually looks like:

→ Design + tech packs: 6–8 weeks
→ Sampling: 2–4 weeks per round, and you’ll need 2–3 rounds minimum
→ Production: 4–8 weeks
→ Shipping, quality control, buffers: on top of all of that.

We always tell our startup clients to plan for a full year. Not because anything is slow but because each step only works if the one before it was done properly. That’s just how it works.

The founders who come to us with that understanding? Those are the ones who end up with a collection done correctly and launched on time.

If you’re in the early stages of planning, save this. Seriously, you’ll thank yourself later.

Yes we love to design and we love working with all the unique clients who come to us, but it is not just about the design process anymore.

Over the years we have seen so many people with amazing ideas struggle because they did not know which path to take, who to hire, or how to turn their vision into reality. Sometimes products did not come out as imagined, money was wasted, and dreams were put on hold.

That is why we started ModaMinds. We guide designers through every step, help them find the right factories and collaborators, and educate them on the best methods for success. We want designers to create with confidence, clarity, and support, so their ideas can shine exactly as they imagined.

We all have a superpower and that superpower is our uniqueness. ✨

Yes, we may think we like the same things, or feel pressured to follow trends because of media and endless marketing. Trends exist to make people buy… even if it’s not truly what they love.

The world doesn’t need more of the same.

Be you. Do your research, experiment boldly, reflect your individuality in your designs. Dive deep, explore textures, colors, cultures, and perspectives and let your vision be yours.

Your creativity is your voice. Don’t let it get lost in the noise.

Whats the first thing that pops in your head?
Let’s be realistic.. if you had $500 to launch your brand, you wouldn’t have the budget for 10 styles, a huge photoshoot, or fancy packaging.

But here’s the truth: you don’t need all that to start.

The smartest move is choosing one product that people can’t ignore — the piece that catches eyes, sparks conversations, and makes someone say, “I need this.”

Starting small isn’t a limitation... it’s a strategy.
It forces you to focus, test the market, and actually learn what works before you scale. You also get to grow your customer database before you launch more.

So tell me… if you had $500 and one shot, what’s the product you’d launch first? What’s the piece that would be the statement of your brand?

We were finally in the same city after 5 years. Two days later, the situation in the UAE escalated; missile debris fell 500 metres from where we stood. It took us a while to find the words.

Two years of building Modaminds - a design and product development consultancy for fashion entrepreneurs - entirely across screens.

This year, we were finally in the same room, and then the world had other plans.

It felt unreal. It still does.

Dubai is known for being one of the safest places in the world - nothing could have prepared us for that moment.

When something like that happens, you don’t reach for your phone to post content. You step back, process, and hold on to the people next to you. That’s exactly what we did.

We’re grateful to be safe. Grateful for a country that moves quickly to protect its people. And honestly, grateful we had each other.

Coming back to social media didn’t feel right until now. But life goes on and showing up, even imperfectly, matters.

There is a lot going on in the world right now, and we know everyone is handling it differently. Some anxious, some carrying on, some still processing.
Wherever you are with it, we see you, and we’d love to hear how you’re all holding up.

Modaminds has always been about more than just design and production. It’s about genuine connection and community. That matters even more right now 🧡

Start one only if you care about the craft, the planet, the process, the people behind the seams.

Start one only if you’re willing to research, rethink, and create with intention.

Fashion needs fewer trend-driven brands
and more founders who actually care about their message, their impact, and their “why.”

Slow down.
Create consciously.
Make things worth making.

Fashion doesn’t need more clothes —
it needs more meaning.

Follow for more honest industry conversations, education, and guidance.
