“In her confident attempt to rebuild her life in Switzerland, Jalashree Shrikande is also confronted with many obstacles, rejections, disregard and doubts. Moreno Tuttobene presents Shrikhade's story and feelings in a simple and graphic way, symbolically in black and white: apparent repetitions and circular motifs in a silent animation film without end.”

Text taken from the exhibition catalogue “Found in Translation/Salon der Gegenwart,”Helmhaus Zürich, 2022

The initiative of the "Found in Translation" project was also brought to the Helmhaus by the association, which promotes intercultural exchange. The project brings together eleven people who have moved to Zurich with eleven cultural workers who live here. The initiators each form a tandem between a narrator who has moved here and a cultural worker who lives here. The project serves the dialogue between both sides, the understanding, the discussion and the broadening of horizons between the cultures. On a level of empathy, trust and joy, people are to be brought closer to the other, prejudices are to be reduced.

In a first phase, one side of the tandem, people with migration experience, tells stories from their lives and records them in a kind of writing workshop. This text then serves the other side of the tandem, the cultural workers, as inspiration for a work that is created in close exchange with the "narrators". Finally, the third phase is dedicated to linking with the audience. In events, the participants reflect on their experiences in tandem and exchange ideas with the audience. Finally, the aim is to "find each other in translation": in a common language, the language of empathy and encounter through art.

From my archiv (2014)

“Sun Agenda" is a month of sun which can be donate or leaf through anytime you wish to feel the hot sun of summer. The result was obtained using a photosensitive color (the orange) that was impressed/fixed by sun rays through a matrix/mold of acetates — as silkscreen process does — which created, on a fabric, 30 representations of the sun, drawn by myself.

They are interpretations or portraits of the sun, made with the collaborations
of the sicilian hinterland sun, precisely Nissoria (En) sun. "Sun Agenda" is composed of 32 pages, the project was conceived and realized by Moreno Tuttobene on August 2014.

Printed with two colors with a Risograph EZ570 in Zurich on November 2014 by Moreno Tuttobene in a limited edition of 10 copies (sold out).

I had the great pleasure of illustrating the Conchita story for and the “Found in Translation” project. After reading her story, I decided to create many pictograms that represent a visual synthesis of her life story.

„It was a Saturday and the whirlwind of activity started right after breakfast. The neighbors came to help my aunts and I bring the luggage to my beloved and unforgettable "2CV" car. But that was no ordinary baggage. God only knows how much we could fit in this car. (...)

Our arrival in Switzerland was a memorable moment. It was late at night and it was raining heavily. (...) We nervously approached the border crossing and stopped the car. Imagine our surprise when we saw a gesture from inside and went up the barrier to let us through.“

“Appreciating the new” by Conchita Argante. Thanks to
