MAKUMAYU - Alpaca Fashion & Leather Goods

MAKUMAYU is a fashion company registered in Switzerland which was established in 2011 and is run by the fourth generation of the Palaco family from Peru.

The family were among the pioneers in the alpaca wool trade and were already producing alpaca wool and exporting it to Europe in the early 20th century. The name of the company is composed of two elements central to the family history. The family lived in the Peruvian village of "MAKUSANI", situated over 4,000 metres above sea level, in order to deal in alpaca wool. The wool merchants had to cross

the river "MAYU" and, to do this, they would use a bridge which the family helped to build in the 1960s. The close family ties with the high plains of Peru and with the alpaca breeders are also reflected in the commitment of MAKUMAYU to social causes and the company's support for local projects.
