Typhoon Yagi and Its Aftermath
On September 6, 2024, Typhoon Yagi, one of the strongest autumn typhoons ever to make landfall in China, struck Wengtian Town in Wenchang City, Hainan Province. The typhoon’s powerful winds and torrential rains devastated the island, causing unprecedented damage. Yagi affected 52.61 million people across 19 cities and counties in Hainan Province, with direct economic losses in Haikou City amounting to approximately 26.324 billion RMB, and 32.7 billion RMB in Wenchang City. Countless homes collapsed, crops were destroyed, and trees were uprooted, posing severe challenges to the lives and livelihoods of the people of Hainan.
