Friday Recap - July 10, 2026

Friday gave us two Mesa stops with very different stakes: a standalone Flippin' Friday at Atomic Age Modern, and the final qualifying night before BRI Women's League finals on Sunday.

Flippin' Friday at Atomic

Jason Barre won the night at Atomic with 32 points, two clear of Dave Halley and John Magyar at 30.

The final round had a tidy little pressure knot. After five rounds, Jason, Dave, and Bob Kennedy were all tied at 27, with John sitting close behind at 25. Jason did not need to win his last game; he needed to survive it cleanly. Dakota Jeane nearly played spoiler by winning that Eight Ball Deluxe group, but Jason's 2nd-place finish ahead of Dave was enough to hold the top spot. John took 2nd on Nine Ball to climb into the runner-up tie, while Bob's last game on Flight 2000 knocked him back into the tie for 4th.

That 4th-place group was not exactly empty. Kevin Jin, Chris Stoltenberg, Shawn Barnett, Kristofer Jonson, and Bob all finished on 28. Kevin and Kristofer both shook off slow starts to get there. Kristofer closed with three straight wins, while Kevin won two of his final three rounds, including Flight 2000 in Round 6.

BRI Taproom & Arcade Women's Pinball League

BRI had the higher-drama finish because Friday was the final qualifying night before Sunday's finals, with the top 8 headed to A Division.

Diane Smith won the night at 8-2, and she had to earn the ending. Gaby Craft opened 7-0 and looked like she might run the room, then lost her final three games: to Mollie Stoltenberg on Old Chicago, Mahina Hayashi on Iron Maiden, and finally Diane on Eight Ball. Diane entered that last game at 7-2, beat Gaby head-to-head, and turned it into the tournament win.

Mayia Hayashi and Gaby both finished one game back at 7-3, with Victoria Herring and Esther Rincon next at 6-4. That top five mattered beyond the weekly result because the series line was moving at the same time.

Diane's 100-point week pushed her into the final A Division spot, but it was not a quiet chase. Esther put up a 97 of her own, and Victoria also added a 97 to strengthen her place above the line. The final A spot ended up in a small interstice: Victoria held 7th, Diane landed 8th, and Esther finished just outside A in 9th.

So Friday's split decision was Jason Barre calmly holding off the Atomic crowd, and Diane Smith turning one final Eight Ball game into both a weekly win and a Sunday A Division seat. Not a bad little bit of Main Street bookkeeping.

Tilt Studio Pinball League Week 3 Recap - July 9, 2026

Week 3 brought 30 players, five rounds, and the official midpoint of a six-week season where the top 12 make finals and the top 4 earn a first-round bye. That bye matters. Nobody wants to spend finals night immediately walking into the buzzsaw if they can politely stand somewhere else first.

Hailey Buhrman took the weekly win with 33 points, built on four wins and one second-place finish. She opened with a win on Metallica, took 2nd on The Beatles, then closed with wins on Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Wars, and Pokémon. James Turner was the only player able to beat Hailey all night, catching her in that Round 2 game on The Beatles.

That is the kind of clean card that does not need much embellishment. Four wins and a second over five rounds is not accidental; it is just steady pressure, one group at a time.

Craig Bolton finished 2nd with 30 points, and his path had some real teeth. Craig won Pokémon and Guardians of the Galaxy to start the night, took 2nd on Ghostbusters, won James Bond 007, then finished 2nd to Jared Harris in the final round on Star Wars. Craig's only losses all night were to Gaby Craft on Ghostbusters and Jared on Star Wars, and he had to see Jared twice plus Adam Horton once. That is a sturdy runner-up finish.

Jared took 3rd with 29 points, and his card had a very simple shape: win, win, stumble, win, win. He won Deadpool, Foo Fighters, Godzilla, and Star Wars, with his only miss coming on Ghostbusters, where he finished behind Gaby and Craig. Four wins and one rough group still plays just fine.

Behind the top three came a loaded 27-point pileup: Fae Ashley, Jeffrey Goad, John Magyar, and Adam Horton all tied for 4th. Fae won John Wick and Pirates of the Caribbean. Jeffrey rebounded from a slow opener with three straight wins on Metallica, James Bond 007, and The Beatles. John Magyar won Monopoly, Ghostbusters, and Deadpool. Adam closed with a Stranger Things win to stay right in the weekly and season conversation.

Serge Sicular also had the most efficient night in the room. He was only able to show up starting in Round 3, then went 3-for-3 on The Addams Family, Monopoly, and Star Wars to finish tied for 13th with 21 points.

At the midpoint, the series race has started to matter in a more serious way. The standings count each player's best four scores over six weeks, and the top 4 after Week 6 get that first-round bye in finals.

The last two comparable Tilt Studio seasons give us a useful target. The top-4 bye line finished at 386 and 383. The finals line finished at 366 and 365. Even more ominously, 364 missed finals both times, which feels less like a number and more like a small curse wearing a calculator watch.

So yes, the board is still anfractuous, but the shape is visible. Adam and Hailey have the best cushion. Fae, John Magyar, John Shopple, Craig, and Jeffrey are packed tightly behind them. Jared Harris and Andrew Kohtz are the big watch-out names below the current top 12 because both have only two scores, but both scores are strong. Jared has a 96 and 98. Andrew has a 96 and 96. If they keep adding results, the bye race and the finals line both get less comfortable very quickly.

Brad Vogus and Paul Blanco are also worth watching around the finals picture. They are behind in raw standings because they have only two weeks on the board, but both still have enough room to make the last three weeks interesting.

Midpoint Questions

- Is Adam Horton's worst week really going to be a tied-4th finish?
- Did Hailey just turn Week 3 into a reminder that consistency can be louder than chaos?
- Is Craig's 30-point night the start of a top-4 bye push, or just the standings politely warning everyone?
- Can Jared Harris keep missing a week and still make the top of the standings feel crowded?
- How many players can fit into the John Shopple / John Magyar / Fae Ashley / Craig Bolton bye-race traffic circle before someone has to signal?
- Is Jeffrey Goad close enough to the top group to make Week 4 weird?
- Will 364 miss finals for a third straight season, and if so, should 364 be asked to leave the building?
- Are we at the midpoint, or just the part of the season where the spreadsheet starts giggling?

Halfway home: Hailey won the night, Adam still leads the series, and the top-4 bye race is no longer theoretical. The final three weeks should have plenty of room for both math and nonsense, which is usually where Tilt Studio League does its best work.

Wednesday Recap - July 8, 2026

Wednesday gave us a full congeries of Arizona pinball: four leagues, one standalone weekly, and five rooms with something worth noticing.

At BRI Taproom and Arcade, Chad Beguin won Week 4 of BRI Taproom and Arcade Pinball League, going 9-1 in a 25-player Max Matchplay night. He did some of his best work against the right people at the right time, including a Spider-Man win over Jared Harris while Jared was still leading, then a late Venom win over Frank Valenzuela while Chad was tied for the lead.

Darren Coleman and Jared both finished at 8-2, with Darren listed 2nd on Match Play's automatic tiebreaker and Jared 3rd. Geoff Bennett, Scott Pobieglo, John Magyar, Jason Barre, Frank Valenzuela, and Jeff Wegener all finished at 7-3.

The BRI series picture is muddy enough that the full board is better left to the link. The short version: only six players have played all four weeks, the three-week players are still in very good shape, and the best-two profiles keep Jared Harris and Noah Suchoff very much alive. Jared has a 99 and a 98 on the board, while Noah has back-to-back 97s. If they each add two more strong weeks, the finals race gets crowded in a hurry.

The Outpost Open League started its new season with 24 players and a shared top spot. Jeff Barthold and Casey Reed both finished at 33 points, six clear of the rest of the field.

Casey opened with wins on Dungeons & Dragons, Sorcerer, and Star Trek, and was the only perfect player through three rounds. Round 4 on Xenon changed the shape of the night: Casey, Fae Ashley, and Valerie Doucette were all in the lead pack going in, but Tyler Dominique won the group and Casey took 2nd. Jeff won Blackout in the same round to catch Casey at 26, then both leaders won in Round 5: Casey on Jim Henson's Labyrinth, Jeff on World Cup Soccer.

Valerie Doucette and Sam Gauck tied for 3rd at 27. Valerie won Game of Thrones, World Cup Soccer, and The Walking Dead, while Sam won Blackwater 100 and Genesis and never finished lower than 3rd after Round 1. Elena Valenzuela took 5th with 25, with Krisha Shufran, Wes Stratton, and Fae Ashley all at 23.

At Tilt Gamez, Tommy Bizzi kept doing Tommy Bizzi things. He won the 19-player weekly with 31 points, opening with four straight wins on AC/DC, Dungeons & Dragons, Terminator 3, and Iron Maiden.

The final round still made him work for it. Joel Daniel won Rick and Morty over Milliana Bizzi and Tommy, which helped Joel finish 3rd overall at 27. Tommy had enough cushion to hold the win anyway. Justin Miller finished 2nd with 29 after closing with a win on The Uncanny X-Men, and Milliana finished 4th at 24.

Down in Sierra Vista, Eric Anderson put up the clean card of the night. Five rounds, five wins, 35 points, and the Week 2 win in Sierra Vista Pinball League at Urban Axe Yard.

Eric won on Metallica, James Bond 007, King Kong, JAWS, and Foo Fighters. Dave Pineda finished 2nd with 29 after wins on King Kong, James Bond 007, and Pulp Fiction. Steve Ogle took 3rd with 28, Bob Bodman finished 4th with 26, and Scott Fite rounded out the top five at 25. That is not a final series shape yet, but a perfect Week 2 is a pretty efficient way to make everyone else look up.

EBD PHX Season 4 opened at Tilted Arcade at The Mighty Axe with a seven-player Week 1 field and a one-point finish at the top.

Hayden McElroy won with 20 points, one ahead of Zack Freeman and two ahead of David Sanders. Hayden won Foo Fighters, took a last-place detour on The Godfather, then came back with a Jurassic Park win and a 2nd-place finish in the final round on Harry Potter.

That Harry Potter game was the long one: a little over 56 minutes, nearly twice as long as any other game in the event. Nick Schwartz won the game, Hayden took 2nd, and that was enough for Hayden to hold the top spot even after Zack won the final-round Pokémon group.

Tuesday Recap - July 7, 2026

Tuesday night brought the halfway point of Electric Bat League, plus Marana Pinball Collective's summer run of single-day Tuesday tournaments at Catalina Brewing.

At Electric Bat, Greg Drewes picked a pretty direct way to make Week 3 matter: five rounds, five wins, 35 points, and the top spot in a 91-player field.

Greg opened on Black Jack, then kept the card clean through World Cup Soccer, Dolly Parton, King Kong, and Nitro Ground Shaker. That is not a gentle league-night stroll. That is walking through the arcade with a clipboard and asking each machine whether it has considered its quarterly goals.

It was not a shock in the "who is this person?" sense. Greg is IFPA world ranked No. 429, and this was not his first trip to the top of an Electric Bat Tuesday. Dating back to Electric Bat's first IFPA-sanctioned Tuesday night league in 2021, he had already won or shared first 10 times, starting with a shared win on Nov. 9, 2021. His last one before Tuesday was May 27, 2025, so this was less a bolt from nowhere than a reminder that he has been doing this for years. But a perfect night at Electric Bat is still a perfect night at Electric Bat, and those are never casual little errands.

Ty Bull finished 2nd with 31 points, taking wins on Transformers, The Munsters, and Stars. The Munsters was the big swing: Ty beat Hailey Buhrman and Nicholas Zachry, with Nicholas entering the round tied for the lead and still on perfect pace. Ty's night mattered twice: once because 31 points was good enough for a clear 2nd on the night, and again because it gave him a 99-point week on the league's 100-point series scale.

Behind them came the kind of 29-point tie that makes the standings page look like it needs a traffic signal. Dave Halley, Jeff Wegener, Nicholas Zachry, Paul Blanco, Matt Jackson, Kenny Chan, Adam Schweikart, John Shopple, and Brian Pinney all tied for 3rd.

The best chase story belonged to Adam Schweikart. Through four rounds, Adam and Greg were the only two players still perfect at 28 points, each with a shot at a clean 35. Greg won Nitro Ground Shaker in Round 5 to finish the job. Adam reached the final run on Hotdoggin' with the same chance, then caught an edge, scattered the poles, and finished last in the group. That turned a possible perfect night into a very respectable tie for 3rd overall, just with a little more snow in the goggles.

John Shopple had a wonderful recovery card too: wins on Iron Man, Medieval Madness, Whirlwind, a last place in a three-player game on Batman 66, then a final-round win on Viking. That Batman 66 game mattered on both sides, because Jeff Wegener won it and used that result to land in the same big tie for 3rd. Brian Pinney stayed right in the upper pack with wins on Eight Ball, Twilight Zone, and Rush. Dave Halley closed hard with wins on Total Nuclear Annihilation, Joker Poker, and Andromeda after opening with a 3rd.

So after three weeks, the series is starting to develop a real midpoint shape. Brian Pinney leads at 280, followed by Andrew Roesch at 273, John Shopple at 270, Adam Horton at 264, Gaby Craft at 254, then JJ Horner and Greg Drewes at 253. Adam Schweikart is right behind at 250.

That is the three-week picture. The best-two-week view adds the useful syzygy: current points, strong weekly profiles, and player strength all lining up just enough to make the back half interesting. Kenny Chan is 10th overall, but his best two weeks are 96 and 94. Matt Johnson is 25th overall with a 96 and an 86. Ty Bull is 31st overall, but now has a 99 to go with a 72 and the rating profile to make that feel like a warning light instead of a weird blip. Those are the players to keep an eye on when the last three weeks start turning the screws.

Questions At The Halfway Point:

Can Brian Pinney keep the whole league chasing his taillights for three more weeks?

Is Greg Drewes going to treat one perfect night as a nice little outburst, or was that the part where the standings started hearing boss music?

How nervous should everyone be about Kenny Chan, Matt Johnson, and Ty Bull having strong scores on the board with three weeks still to play?

Can Gaby Craft keep banking solid weeks until "hanging around the top five" stops sounding like a surprise and starts sounding like a mailing address?

And most importantly: is the Week 6 bubble going to be a clean mathematical process, or are we all going to need snacks, a spreadsheet, and emotional support?

Down in Marana, MPC continued its summer Tuesday run with the MPC Summer Tournament Series - Fair Strikes, drawing 15 players to Catalina Brewing.

This is not the regular Marana league season. MPC usually runs a league, but this summer stretch is a set of independent single-day events. The "series" in the title is doing a little casual lifting here, not pointing to a separate season standings race.

Andy Nicholls won the night, and he did it cleanly. In a four-strike fair-strikes format, Andy finished with only one strike across six games. After taking a small strike in Round 1 on JAWS, he won Foo Fighters, El Dorado, Tales of the Arabian Nights, Prospector, and then Star Wars: Fall of the Empire to close it out.

John Finnegan finished 2nd and Eric Lehrling took 3rd, so the top of the result lined up pretty closely with the top of the rating sheet. Andy, Ben Clement, John, and Derek Jordan were the top four Match Play-rated players in the field, and Andy and John turned that into the top two finishing spots. Sometimes the obvious players still have to go do the obvious thing, which is rude but educational.

The final game on Star Wars had Andy finishing 1st, John 2nd, and Eric 3rd. That gave Andy the tournament, left John as runner-up, and put Eric in 3rd after he had been right in the mix all night with wins on Tales of the Arabian Nights, Pokémon, and El Dorado.

Monday League Recap - July 6, 2026

Monday night brought two league stops: EPIC Women's League opened its new season at The Outpost Arcade, and North Mountain Brewing hit Week 3 of its current series.

At Outpost, EPIC started a new six-week qualifying season, and Mollie Stoltenberg made the first Monday count.

Mollie Stoltenberg took the opener with 33 points, and she had to work back into it. Shaniya Lee led after four rounds, Meghan Bougher was right there, and Mollie was still chasing after opening with 2nd on Dungeons & Dragons. Then Mollie won Solar Fire, Metallica, Xenon, and Weird Al in succession, closing the night with enough to pass everyone.

Meghan finished 2nd at 32 points after wins on Rick and Morty, Space Shuttle, Labyrinth, and Godzilla. Shaniya took 3rd at 31 after winning Dungeons & Dragons, Sorcerer, Star Trek, and Genesis before a 3rd-place finish on Labyrinth opened the door. That is still a very strong start, especially for a player who has only been around the tournament scene for a couple years and keeps looking more comfortable in deeper fields.

Terri Boyd and Gaby Craft tied for 4th at 27, with Patrick Swazey, Kaydee Helm, and Olivia Helm rounding out the Week 1 top eight. It is early, but the first page of the standings already has a nice little Monday-night mix of regular contenders, rising players, and "oh right, this league is going to be interesting again" names.

At North Mountain Brewing, Louis Rulon won Week 3 with 31 points and never finished lower than 2nd all night. He opened with wins on Metallica, King Kong, and Elvira's House of Horrors, then took 2nd on Black Knight and Godzilla to hold off a hard charge from Alex Kee.

Alex finished 2nd at 29, and his card was the loud one: wins on Jurassic Park, Godzilla, Black Knight, and King Kong, with one rough stop on Elvira's House of Horrors keeping Louis in front. Stephan Klein and Dave Halley tied for 3rd at 27. Stephan closed with wins on Rush and Game of Thrones, while Dave won Foo Fighters and the final Elvira game.

Jared Harris had a strange-looking 5th-place finish at 23, but the ending mattered. He won Elvira's House of Horrors in Round 4 and Godzilla in Round 5, which kept him on top of the series standings through three weeks.

That standings picture is where North Mountain gets a little protean. Among the players with three scores on the board, Jared holds the lead, followed by Andrew Kohtz, Dave Halley, David Sanders, and Mike McClure. It is a strong front group, and it gives the series a real shape heading into the back half.

The wild cards are Louis and Cara Eisinger. Louis has made both of his nights count in a big way, and Cara has done the same with two strong finishes of her own. Both are positioned to pull right into the lead pack by the end of six weeks, which is exactly the kind of standings-page mischief that keeps a league season from getting too tidy.

Silverball Sunday Recap - July 5, 2026

After a quiet July 3 and July 4 holiday break, Arizona pinball came back Sunday at Atomic Age Modern with Silverball Sunday: 41 players, Pace Matchplay qualifying, a Party Zone tiebreaker, a stream running through the action, and an Amazing Race final that turned a last-spot scramble into a tournament win.

The qualifying field had plenty of expected names in it, and several of the strongest players in the room missed the finals entirely. This was not a soft top eight. Dave Halley led qualifying with 45 points, followed by Brian Pinney at 43, Kevin Erickson at 39, Jason Barre at 37, and Chris Stoltenberg at 36.

Then the cutline got weird in the best possible way. Round 7 pushed the target to 34 points, and four players landed exactly there for three remaining finals spots: Joel Daniel, Louis Rulon, Mark Farina Jr, and Scott Pobieglo. Joel won his final qualifying group on The Party Zone, Mark won his group on The Machine: Bride of Pin-Bot, and Scott won his group on Eight Ball Deluxe to force the issue.

The tiebreaker was on The Party Zone, and Scott ended up the odd player out. Joel, Louis, and Mark moved on, but that only bought them a ticket to the Amazing Race final, where every machine can turn into an exit ramp.

Amazing Race is not gentle. Players can move ahead as soon as they are safe, so several machines can be active at once, but each stop still leaves one player behind. Brian Pinney went out on Dolly Parton, then Kevin Erickson followed on Whirlwind, Mark Farina Jr on Volley, Chris Stoltenberg on Firepower, Louis Rulon on Nine Ball, and Jason Barre on Harlem Globetrotters On Tour.

That left Joel against Dave Halley, the top qualifier, on Evel Knievel. Joel put up 111,720, Dave finished at 61,380, and Joel completed the full ride from tiebreaker danger to Silverball Sunday champion.

That made the whole thing a tidy little eucatastrophe: from one of four players fighting for three finals spots to the last player standing. It also gave Joel his first IFPA first-place finish.

Tilt Studio Pinball League Week 2 Recap - July 2, 2026

Week 2 at Tilt Studio brought 31 players, five rounds, and the first real chance to check last week's questions against something besides optimism and calculator fumes.

Adam Horton is still the headline. After opening the season with a perfect 35-point night, Adam came back with 33 points and another weekly win. He won groups on Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean, JAWS, and Godzilla, with his only non-win a second behind Dave Halley on Venom.

That gives Adam a 100/100 start in the series standings. Week 1 asked whether he could turn a perfect opener into a season-long push at the top. Week 2 answered: yes, and he would like the standings to stop asking follow-up questions.

John Magyar made the biggest Week 1-to-Week 2 move near the top. After tying for 10th in the opener, John finished 2nd this week with 31 points. He won Foo Fighters, James Bond 007, and Stranger Things, then finished second to Jared Harris on Pokémon in the final round. Last week we wondered whether John was working his way back toward A, or just leaving "remember me?" notes under the glass. Apparently he came back with a Sharpie.

The 27-point pileup behind Adam and John was loaded: Jared Harris, Hailey Buhrman, Kristofer Jonson, Dan Torrens, and Andrew Kohtz all tied for 3rd. Hailey was tied with Adam and John after four rounds before a last-place finish on Stranger Things. Andrew opened slowly, then closed with three straight wins on Elvira's House of Horrors, Metallica, and Foo Fighters. Jared jumped right into the series picture in his first Tilt Studio League night of the season, finishing the night with wins on John Wick and Pokémon.

Kristofer Jonson had one of the strongest "maybe that Week 1 finish was not the whole story" nights. He tied for 17th last week, then tied for 3rd this week and moved into the current top 12 overall. Christy Kohtz also deserves a nod: tied for 10th on the night and only two points outside the current A line after a Week 2 that played bigger than the standings line alone.

Fae Ashley finished one point behind the 3rd-place pileup, and of course one of her wins came on Venom. Some players look at Venom and see a problem. Fae seems to see a familiar appliance with a start button.

After two weeks, Adam leads the series with 200 points. Hailey Buhrman is 2nd at 194, Andrew Kohtz is 3rd at 192, Fae Ashley is 4th at 191, and John Shopple and John Magyar are tied at 189. Craig Bolton, Jeffrey Goad, Dave Halley, Gaby Craft, Kristofer Jonson, and Stephanie Turner round out the current top 12.

That line is still more weather report than prophecy. Jared Harris, Paul Blanco, and Brad Vogus each have only one score in the bank, and all three are very capable of making the standings more complicated once the dropped-week math starts to breathe. Week 2 did not require a full palinode from last week's questions, but it definitely revised a few of them.

Questions After Week 2

- Is Adam Horton going to let anyone else have a 100, or is this a timeshare situation?
- Did John Magyar leave a "remember me?" note, then come back and underline it three times?
- Is Fae Ashley going to keep hovering near the top until everyone realizes that is just where she lives now?
- Can Gaby Craft keep holding an A spot while the one-week sharks start swimming upward?
- Is Kristofer Jonson the Week 2 answer to last week's "middle-pack foreshadowing" question?
- How many strong one-week players can stand outside the top 12 before the standings start looking nervous?
- Is the current A line real, or just Week 2 wearing a fake mustache?
- Will Week 3 clarify anything, or will it just knock over the furniture and call it parity?

That feels about right for two weeks in: Adam is perfect in series points, Hailey and Fae are still near the top, John Magyar made a loud move, and the standings are already giving off that early-season smell of "please check again next Thursday."
