We grew up in schools field with pictures of missing people from the war, nobody knew what happened to them. Drawings picturing devastated old ladies holding a picture of their son, crying in agony. Those was definitely made by 7 years old kids, you could tell czz they looked weird and not that beautiful.

We had to always write with pencil in some thin notepads they gave us every year. The cover was always accompanied by a picture of a church or a monument from the occupied Cyprus, at the top was always printed the same phrase: I don't forget.

That was my first brainwash. I’m just seven and I have to grieve for something that I never knew. I have to be mad at some random people that took my land because of course it’s mine and on top of that I had to do not forget about it, like never. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Now of course everything make sense. Although what happened is in the past, of course the devastated ladies that we used to draw had a reason to cry but what matters to me is the future. What actually matters now is to take a look at the devastated women around us, I’m sure a mother today is looking for her dead son. But of course they will never gonna put a Somali drowned migrant on the cover of their school books.

Souvenirs/Trashy teenagers and the need to travel 🧳🐬

Before 1974, Varosha was the modern tourist area of the Famagusta city. Its Greek Cypriot inhabitants fled during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, when the city of Famagusta came under Turkish control, and it has remained abandoned ever since. In the early 1970s, Famagusta was the number-one tourist destination in Cyprus. To cater to the increasing number of tourists, many new high-rise buildings and hotels were constructed. During its heyday, Varosha was not only the number-one tourist destination in Cyprus, but between 1970 and 1974, it was one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world and was a favorite destination of such celebrities as Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Raquel Welch, and Brigitte Bardot.

In 2000s passing from Ayia Napa was like Inferno, all I remember is vomit used condoms and the smell of cheap sunscreen.
Not to mention people having s*x in the streets 🧴

There people mostly men use to hang out to play Tavli and talk about politics while having there Cyprus Coffee.
When women use to loose a family member especially their husband they should wear black for ever, something like a punishment, a reminder that life here should never go on aka Never forget always fighting(δεν ξεχνω και αγωνιζομαι)🤷🏻
