I own four traditional Cypriot looms on which I create all the pieces found on my shop. I am interested in the construction of fabrics based on traditional weaving and embroidery techniques of Cyprus but also in developing contemporary designs based on these techniques. I enjoy giving a contemporary twist to my fabrics by interweaving rather unorthodox materials such as copper wire, wool, cane, me

tallic yarns and plastic glass in cotton warp. Each medium has its own qualities that I like to take advantage of, in order to create intriguing textures, transparencies as well as patterns. Weaving enthusiasts are welcome to my workshop to learn and hopefully preserve the ancient craft of hand weaving! I offer traditional weaving lessons but also encourage students to experiment with their own designs.

Here is “Goddess Athena,” a woven piece currently exhibited at until the 20th of December as part of the show “Women of the Greek Myths.”

Athena, the goddess of wisdom, is depicted wearing a gold dress and her familiar helmet, reminiscent of her representation in the Parthenon temple in Athens — the city named in her honour.

Snakes, among her primary emblems, are often shown on ancient vessels adorning her breastplate. In the top right corner, embroidered words taken from ancient texts describe some of her attributes.

This coming Monday -October 21st- I will be presenting my book ‘The Bibilla of Omodos’ at the Centre of Visual Arts and Research (CVAR) in Nicosia at 7pm.
The majority of the book is based on testimonies by a small group of ladies that still make needle-knot lace today. They talk about its technique, designs, tips of good lace-making and most importantly about the place and role this traditional craft has had in their lives.
Hope to see some of you there!

I am very happy to announce the publication of my book on needle-knot lace (bibilla) from Omodos village. My research places this type of needle-lace in the broader historical context of Cypriot needle-lace-making and explores its relationship with other types of laces from the broader region of the Eastern Mediterranean and Europe.

The majority of the book is based on testimonies by a small group of ladies that still make needle-knot lace today. They talk about its technique, designs, tips of good lace-making and most importantly about the place and role this traditional craft has had in their lives.

The book is in Greek and will be presented in Omodos village this Friday (June 14th)
