I love making paintings, teaching painting, and learning about painting. Oko Academy is where I work and teach in Prague, Czech Republic. Every 6 weeks I work with one artist who is accepted via an application process. This is a one on one mentorship program focused solely on working with artists who wish to get better at painting, conceptualizing, and seeing the world through paint. The course is
composed of a variety of 14 drawing and painting sessions designed to strengthen the fundamentals, and sharpen your ability to conceptualize. These sessions can be taken at different speeds. Basically, we’re going to be drawing and painting together. In addition to the painting and drawing sessions, I’ll also introduce some different materials and techniques. In the past I’ve shown how to prime a canvas, how to make panel supports, how to make oil paint, how to make “real” gesso which was used by the old masters, sizing a canvas with rabbit skin glue, and many more. You’ll be expected to keep a sketchbook, and also read a book throughout the quarter. There will be 3 hour painting/drawing sessions. There will be 2 hour long materials sessions.
