Teaching an advanced beginner workshop tomorrow, featuring this beginner-friendly corset pattern adapted from ’ .

We’ll be covering some great skills for sewists to learn and practice — including darts, bias binding (with lots of fiendish curves!), and how to use an eyelet press.

I’ve been waking up extra early this week to make a sample for the class, using only fabrics and trims I had lying around — including some trusty cable ties for boning!

Finally sharing some photos from a visible mending / Sashiko workshop I did last month at as part of their tea ceremony and crafts open day. I was amazed to see how quickly these beginners picked up the skill and how beautiful their results were.

This type of mending can really add embellishment to a garment, elevating something thrifted into treasure.

Supplies included:
Embroidery needles
White cotton embroidery thread
Stencils
Scrap fabrics for learning / thrifted garments

🧪Experiments continue to solve for the best boxy tee shape.

Both the t-shirt and ribbing are organic cotton. The patch pocket is hand painted with my copper patina technique and the pocket fabric is a slightly lighter viscose / cotton blend as I know from previous goes that fabric gets stiff when painted.

A short little after work project again - 3.5 hours - with drying time ✨.

Think I’ve almost nailed it. Might shorten the sleeve slightly for next time.

Made me some cute overalls. Not usually a pink girly - but I fell hard for this ginkgo leaf narrow gauge corduroy *swoon* which I bought from . Perfect post work project - took from 5.30pm til 11pm this evening.

I admit that I made the pattern on Monday night so if you were going to factor in pattern drafting too then it’d probably be more like a 10 hour project.

Super cosy though - although the corduroy was a little less think than I was expecting so I think these might be a spring pair.

Suddenly starving now that the hyper focus moment has passed 😅.

Today marks the official launch of my new website and the beginnings of LEAP design as a fully fledged design brand operating out of my new studio in Brighton, UK.

To celebrate the launch, I’ve been hard at work on a small drop of deadstock designer chalk bags for bouldering - a lucky batch of seven to be exact 🍀.

I call this one, ‘The Disco Stu’ 🪩.

These have all been lovingly handmade, prototyped and product tested by me on the bouldering wall.

Each chalk bag has saved around 650 grams of impossible to recycle textiles from landfill. Why impossible to recycle? Because most of these Italian-made designer fabrics are a blend of fibres including silk, polyester, acetate and viscose - which is hard to separate later once made.

Browse the range of totally unique chalk bags using the link in my bio.

Lastly, for all the long-time supporters and fans in the back - I’d like to thank you all so much for all your support throughout my design journey to date - whether you bought a face mask in 2020, a t-shirt or you donated to one of my many fundraisers this past year. You guys rock 🪨☺️.

Rest assured that there’s lots of scientific and environmentally sound development going on in the background down here in Brighton and more product drops will follow so please stay tuned.

Much love,

Susan 💚
