Clothing Store and Studio. Sustainable Clothing , Leather Bags, Jewellery, Japanese Paper and Cerami Each upcycled piece is unique.

Founded by designer Kate Pinkstone, Shio is a sustainable fashion label, store and studio in Neukölln, Berlin. Passionate about promoting an ethical supply chain, Kate sews every item in her in-store studio using natural materials carefully sourced from all over Europe. Using eco linen, organic cotton and upcycled cotton, the core styles are repeated season after season to promote themes of slow f

ashion and sustainability. Building from classic, timeless silhouettes, the Shio Label offers modern essentials for your everyday. In store you will also find the Shio Upcycled line, which consists of garments created from second-hand clothing or textiles, sourced from thrift stores and flea markets. Kate often uses her patterns from the Shio Label to offer her classic shio shapes in a textured or printed second hand fabrics. In store you will also find pieces from 4 other Berlin creatives:

Sigurrós Eidsdottir, Birgit Böse (PULVA JEWELRY), Leah Buckareff (PULP PAPIER), Ben Mönks and Kate Pinkstone (SHIO) inhabit the studio spaces behind the store, creating honest, high quality, handmade goods on a daily basis. The SHIO store is a platform to showcase their works.

ANNOUNCEMENT TIME 🧡

After 13 fabulous years of running SHIO store and studio I’ve decided it’s time for a big change. At the end of this year I’ll hand the store over to my studio mates who will continue to thrive in this creative space. I’ve absolutely loved this job. It let me work in fashion the exact way I want to - focusing on the craft of making clothes and steering clear of an industry that exploits and pollutes. I’m very proud of creating the SHIO brand focused on timeless sustainable shapes alongside my upcycling passion project, giving second-hand garments a new life. After over a decade of running the store I’ll be finishing up at the end of this year. I’m feeling very positive to be ending things on a high. I’ve sewn over 1500 pieces this year and I’m looking looking forward to giving my hands and back a rest 😅

I’d like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who has bought a Shio item over the years, from the earlier quirkier, sometimes very ‘handmade’ looking pieces, to the later more refined core Shio wardrobe staples. I’ve met most of you in person in the store and it’s been an absolute pleasure. I’ll be in the store as usual : Monday - Saturday 11h -18h until my final shift on Dec. 21 2024. Please stop by to say goodbye anytime 🥰
As I wind things down stock levels are very limited and won’t be restocked, so if you’ve had your eye on any Shio pieces, now would be the chance to snap something up and also to use your vouchers 🧡
I don’t think I’ll ever stop sewing, creating, upcycling and fabric printing so feel free to get in touch about projects and custom items, but starting next year I’ll have a full time job and I’m really looking forward to learning new skills. It may take me some time to see if I can juggle employment and freelance work so bear with me and watch this space 👀 Much love 🧡
