KAS PRODUCT_ Peep Freak (1987)

KaS Product was a French electronic duo formed in Nancy in 1982 by Mona Soyoc and Spatsz. Their sound combined stark Synth-Punk, Minimal Synth, and Cold Wave with Soyoc’s distinctive, often confrontational vocals and Spatsz’s stripped-down electronic programming. Built around analog synthesizers, drum machines, guitar, and heavily processed textures, the group created music that felt both mechanical and visceral, balancing dance-floor rhythms with a sense of tension and alienation. Their live performances became an important part of their identity, with Soyoc’s physical, theatrical presence contrasting sharply with Spatsz’s controlled electronic approach. KaS Product remained active through several periods of reformation and are regarded as a seminal act in the French Cold Wave and early European electronic underground.

Played the VSSL radio show at Dublab last night and got to debut a song from a new music project I have been working on with Keven from House of Heaven.

The project is called A.COLD.ERA, and the track Animal (temp name) was mixed w/ Matia at IPS. Give it a listen and let me know what you think. We will be playing our first show at Substance Fest on the 30th in SF.

CLIKATAT IKATOWI_ DNA Timebomb (1995)

One of the more memorable in-stores from back in the 1990s, which took place in at Spin Records in Carlsbad, San Deigo. Who else was there?

Clikatat Ikatowi were a San Diego post-hardcore band active during the mid-1990s. The band was associated with the SD Gravity Records scene, alongside groups including He**in and Antioch Arrow. Their lineup included vocalist Matt Goldsby, guitarist Scott Bartoloni (ex-He**in), bassist Ryan Noel (RIP), and drummer Mario Rubalcaba (Black Heart Procession, Rocket from the Crypt, Hot Snakes, Earthless, Off!).

The band’s music combined elements of Hardcore, Noise, Math Rock and Krautrock, in a Post-Hardcore blend, characterized by dissonant guitar, abrupt rhythmic changes, complex drum patterns, and an aggressive vocal delivery. Their approach moved away from conventional Hardcore song structures and incorporated more experimental arrangements and dynamics. The band disbanded in the mid-ish 1990s.
