Summer, straw hats and a little wanderlust. ☀️🌾

This beautiful video (by )shows the hats in all kinds of different places, and I think that’s exactly what makes them so special: they belong everywhere and make every summer moment feel a little more beautiful. And honestly, they’re simply beautiful objects in their own right.

I’ll be heading off on holiday soon, so there’s only a little window left:
The pop-up store closes this Saturday.

And me? I’m slowly packing my suitcase and looking forward to a little sunshine, sea and new inspiration. 🤍☀️

Every hat that leaves Susanne’s workbench is made to measure. This means a few things.

First, it will take a bit of time. After your measurements are taken, Susanne will craft a hat - just for you. As you see above, the hat is afterwards measured and then gently stretched to size.

The beauty of it: since every piece is custom, you can design it however you want. Different color band? Tassels? More height? Less? A wider brim? Make it you.
Suz is currently getting flooded with requests, so a touch extra patience is appreciated. Also appreciated: your enthusiasm.

This season’s new release is the ostrich feather hat. Single segments of ostrich feathers are sewn on individually, flowing through the air like the tentacles of elegant sea creatures. The hat is completed with a luxurious band hand-sewn from fine silk organza.

This is a Grossmann sewing machine,made in Dresden at the turn of the 20th century when sewing machines were as much objects of beauty as they were functional tools.
Grossmann built machines for hatmakers. The cast iron arm, the flywheel; each part were all designed for one purpose: sewing straw. Still runs as smooth as ever and makes the loveliest sound.

Since the beginning of the year, Susanne has hand sewn over 50 hats to stock up nicely before this summers pop up store. Opening on the 20th of June on Ackerstraße in Mitte, the perfect area for an afternoon stroll and some window shopping. Come in, watch Susanne sew and create, learn something about the hundred year old machines she used,try on different styles and marvel the beauty of Milanese straw.
