A home altar/ shrine made of stoneware, with a water-green glaze on the front.

The house altar offers, even when hanging enough space for tea lights, small vases, scented oil, incense.Of course, the small altars are also made entirely by hand in our own workshop.

I make most of my altars to order. Feel free to contact me.

Dear Zen practitioners, dear friends of Oryoki pottery,

What happened if?
We often think about things that could have been or could have happened. Looking back, this can quickly lead to feelings of lack or regret. Indirectly, one looks at everything that is not. And what is not, rarely feels good.
And in the future? We dream, wish, hope, and imagine all sorts of things. It's a fine line because, on the one hand, everything that inspires and excites us can of course be helpful. On the other hand, the constant observation of an unfulfilled present just doesn't lead to a happy life.
And yet possibilities always contain a piece of reality, don't they?

Largest bowl is ø 16cm/ 6,3". The bowls are transparently glazed on the inside.

Dear Zen practitioners, dear friends of Oryoki pottery,

Happy New Year ... ein glückliches, neues Jahr, how naturally we are alive...

Isn't it a wonder that each and every one of us exists in this way and that we are able to reflect on ourselves, look at ourselves and even transcend ourselves from time to time? It's probably good that we take our lives for granted.
The problems begin when we begin to question ourselves due to shocks in everyday life and, in the never-ending search for answers, lose contact with the power within us that allows us to be alive.
Perhaps that is why we humans have always tried to cultivate the balance between thinking and not thinking, to find trust in ourselves and to discover and experience more and more of the life force that we are.

I recently spent 6 weeks as an Artist in Residence in Saint Louis/ Senegal. Local contacts also made possible a workshop in "teinture", the traditional dyeing of fabrics in West Africa. I've been thinking about whether this would also be feasible for the cloths used in Oryoki practice.

I dipped the rather classic shape of a rice bowl in the colors of my Bavarian homeland. This created a mix of influences. A pale gray-green forms the underglaze. The cobalt blue is burned at a higher temperature to achieve a darker result:

Oryoki-Bowls of Earthenware

My name is Peter Goettler. As a visual artist and Zen practitioner, 3 years ago I decided to make a set of oryoki bowls out of earthenware for myself. After many exercises and attempts, I also began to make bowls for others, mainly for other practitioners of Akazienzendo/ Berlin. The bowls are one of a kind pieces.
