Three years ago, she was the nervous new girl. This summer, she was the one welcoming the new girls. ❤️

In 2023, Ghina came to the ABURY Girls Gearing Up Academy in Berlin at 16, traveling alone for the very first time. Since then, she has chaired our Youth Advisory Board, joined the ABURY team as our social media intern, and came back to the Academy as our photographer. And yes, the guitar came too.

We’re telling a story we have never shared before: the very first prototype of ABURY’s very first product came out the wrong way round. 🙃

You can imagine our faces. 😳 The artisans, on the other hand, were so proud of their “correction”. Today, it just makes us smile. 🤣

Our Berber iPad cases were the first product we ever made, more than 10 years ago. Everything was mirror-reversed, even the opening for the button.

The reason? We read from left to right, they read from right to left. The artisans thought we had briefed them wrong, so they “fixed” our design. Luckily, it was just one prototype.

**What we learned:**

→ Cultural differences show up in the smallest details.

→ Clarify everything, even what seems obvious.

→ Always ask for a prototype before production starts.

What if a place you take for granted is somewhere someone has only ever dreamed of being?

For the young women of the ABURY Hospitality Academy, their first session involved them stepping into a hotel like Mövenpick Hotel Marrakech which was so much more than just a first visit. For some, it was a dream coming true, to some, they described the whole experience as “indescribable amazement.”

Some experienced immense joy, while others were so deeply moved that they couldn’t hold back their tears.

They weren’t just entering a hotel. They were stepping into an environment they had once only dreamed of experiencing, beginning to see new possibilities for themselves and realising that they, too, deserve opportunities to succeed.

Because empowerment is about more than teaching skills. It’s about building confidence, recognising potential and helping girls see themselves as the future of hospitality.

For the next 2 months, the girls will be going to Mövenpick Hotel Marrakech to sharpen their practical skills through food and beverage (F&B) training sessions with the staff members every Friday.

A heartfelt thank you to Mövenpick Hotel Marrakech team from the Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts for giving our girls such a warm welcome and helping make the beginning of their nine-month academy journey so special!

If they could redefine hospitality, what would it look like?

At the ABURY Hospitality Academy, the first day was about more than introductions. It was about building connections! ❤️

Through team-bonding activities, the girls collaborated to create vision boards around themes such as nature, spa and wellness, food, and design. They then presented their ideas, sharing their creativity and perspectives with one another.

But this was about more than simply keeping the girls busy. These activities encouraged collaboration, helped them feel comfortable with their new classmates and introduced them to the creative teamwork that plays an important role in hospitality.
And this is just a glimpse of what the girls have been up to!

270 applications. 22 seats. And one very exciting first day. 🎉

The second ABURY Hospitality Academy is officially in session!

After months of preparation, we’re so happy to finally welcome our new cohort to campus. 💫

What’s new this year:
📍 A new location in the heart of Marrakech
👩‍🎓 22 young women from all across the city and the villages around it
📚 A refined curriculum, shaped by everything we learned in year one

On day one, we focused on getting to know each other: fun games, collage-making together and open conversations about motivations, strengths and what everyone hopes to grow into. The group was lively, curious and so motivated!

We can’t wait to watch these young women grow into confident, brave and independent professionals, and realise just how much potential they hold.

Here’s to nine months of learning, growth, new friendships and plenty of unforgettable memories!

You probably still remember the teacher who believed in you before you did, right?

A few days ago, a new group of young women met theirs. The second cohort of the ABURY Hospitality Academy has started in Marrakech, bringing new faces and new questions, with trainers who will be there for every one of them.

In Douar Anzal, this has been happening for years: in our preschool, where children have been learning their first letters since 2013, and in the Teenage Girls Club, where some of the girls who started there now spend their Sundays.

And we can’t forget about the ABURY Girls Gearing Up Academy, a program hosted across 3 countries, 3 different continents with over 100 participants globally which focuses on teaching girls how to be future leaders, to have confidence in themselves and their ideas.

Happy World Teachers’ Day to everyone who teaches across our projects. Thank you for your patience, for explaining things one more time, and for staying with each person until something clicks.
