Art Cinema Hydra Prelude
Part II

Here is my personal little journey in pictures of a fantastic event during the Prelude: Rob Pruitt’s Flea Market.
The one-day art market was premiere on the Island of Hydra in a spectacular setting: the rooftop terrace of the Greek Archives Museum Hydra, overlooking the port of the island.
Local artists and some from around the globe displayed their work; a part of the proceeds was donated to raise funds for a much needed vet clinic on Hydra.

The response to my clothes and accessories made from discarded garments and other materials was incredible.
The blurred lines between art and couture caught the attention of many visitors at this art market which showcased a beautiful mix of paintings, sculpture, photography - and upcycling.

The Art Cinema Hydra Prelude officially concluded with a movie screening at the Gardenia Open Air Cinema, which is run by the wonderful Lakis Christidis. Guests gathered in front of the Gardenia, to watch the new sign revealed which was designed and painted by a group of local artists.
The film “Hydra & Sophia - Echoes of a Dolphin“, a short documentary about how the timeless beauty of the island has attracted film makers over the decades, was presented, and later a pre screening of “The Birthday Party”.

Art Cinema Hydra Prelude
Part I

I am still reminiscing about an amazing event I took part in on the beautiful Greek island of Hydra: the Art Cinema Hydra Prelude.
Amanda Palmer, founder of Art Cinema Hydra, in collaboration with curator Eric Shiner from Powerhouse Arts New York invited artists from the island and from around the globe, to take part in the Art Cinema Hydra Prelude.

In “Rob Pruitt’s Beauty Salon”, everyone was welcome to get a haircut or their nails painted while engaging in conversation with the artist, and see his exhibit in the building at the heart of bustling Hydra.

One of my personal highlights was the “Draw Salon“, where artists of all ages from the island and from around the globe were invited to paint with oil sticks, championed by the incredibly talented and wonderful Stephen Appleby-Barr.
With his great vision for interactive creativity, Stephen connected the pictures into one big art installation, spreading over the entire space.

My contribution to the Draw Salon was a sculpture made of upcycled clothes, floating ghost-like from the ceiling, reflecting the mystery of the building where the raw walls revealed crumbling stucco and tiles.
The sculpture, the traces of life once lived there and the quiet creativity of the salon seemed to melt into each other.

Having my work seen by other artists and my pieces being perceived as wearable art, was a deeply inspiring experience. I feel encouraged to keep on creating, as the essence of my work remains the passion for sustainability and for the beauty of the unwanted.

A huge Thank You to Amanda Palmer and her amazing team for making this all possible!♥️
