Starting something new: our monthly Surfwear Brand Diaries. 🌊

Running a small brand means you’re always looking ahead to the next collection, the next order, the next idea. It’s easy to forget how much actually happened along the way.

Meet the two of us. 
Diandra does the design. Every cut, every fit, every little detail. She’s a perfectionist in a way that sometimes drives me a little crazy — she’ll redo a pattern for the fifth time because something still doesn’t feel quite right. Most people would never notice the difference. She always does. And she simply doesn’t give up.
I do the numbers and the marketing. Which mostly means I’m also the one who has to hit the brakes sometimes. She comes up with ten ideas for the next collection, and I’m the one saying: “Okay… we’re doing three.” Not exactly my favourite job. 😅
When a delivery arrives, we check everything. Not just a few random pieces — every single one. Every AFATO piece that has ever gone out has passed through our hands first.
And when we create something new, we take it into the ocean ourselves. We surf in it for weeks, paddle, wipe out, and test it again and again.
Until we know it holds.
That’s pretty much AFATO.
Two people, a lot of work, and a lot of saltwater.
And honestly, I couldn’t be happier to be living this adventure and chasing this dream together, building something that’s ours.  This is us Diandra and Fabian. This is AFATO

There was a time when I was convinced my future would be on fashion runways.

I studied fashion design, spent countless hours creating collections, and imagined seeing my work on stages around the world.

Life had other plans.

I learned to surf, moved to Bali, fell in love with the ocean, and started designing for something completely different.

Today, seeing women wear AFATO in the lineup means more to me than I ever imagined a runway could.

Funny how the dreams you never planned for can end up feeling exactly like where you’re meant to be. 🌊
