This month our UX/UI designer Sabrina celebrates her fourth anniversary at Human Interface Design - the perfect occasion to talk to her about her experiences and learnings!

"This year is my fourth year at HID. Looking back, I have not only been able to learn a lot during this time, but have also acquired a sound knowledge of certain topics and customer-specific areas.

What always appeals to me about working as a UX/UI designer is pouring the knowledge I've gained into a well thought-out concept and thus enabling future users to concentrate fully on their task through a good user experience. In this context it is of course also important that the users are involved in usability testing.

In addition to the conception, I find it very exciting to work closely with the development and to see how one's own design "comes to life". In the meantime, I see it as relevant to involve the development at an early stage in order to clarify together in advance on which basis the implementation should take place. This is the only way we as interface designers can deliver the corresponding design components to avoid delays.

Overall, I find the job as a UX/UI designer to be incredibly versatile and I am happy that I have been able to serve all of the job areas in the last four years at HID."

Not doing anything this weekend? Then we recommend the opening of Jakob Offermann's exhibition in our Kiel office / Edition Berlin. It starts at 7 p.m. and the exhibition can be visited until 14 May.

"In a way, Offermann's work is based on a kind of dialectic of romanticism, the fear of chaos lurking behind ordered systems. This chaos can be an accident, a human intervention or a major force of nature. Ss result in pictorial worlds that seem cold and pathetic, distant and nostalgic in equal measure. They are often situations of absence, empty scenes of an event that has already or not yet occurred. Atmospheres of intangible uncertainty and the unreliability of perception are central to Offermann's work."

We are looking forward to the exhibition!

This month, our COO Sandra celebrates her 5th anniversary at Human Interface Design. We are delighted that you enrich our team with your foresight, your creative thinking and your big heart. And for you, too, your employment with the company has brought with it a lot of new responsibilities. Sandra, the terms behind your role at HID are operational management, organizational and team development - but what is actually behind it and what values are particularly important to you?

"To a large extent, service and support for the team. First and foremost, this means always being there for the people and the project teams. Empowering others is goal-oriented for me. I really like to shape everyday work life and cooperation - so I regularly question: What kind of culture and form of cooperation do we want and need in order to work both efficiently and happily in a team? In doing so, I am 100% in favour of sharing responsibility and giving the benefit of the doubt.

In addition, I keep an eye on the efficiency of our project work. Are there processes that we can standardize or improve? Where do we need to steer? I have also found that many approaches from project management can be transferred to my company-related tasks. For me, a successful process is: analysis, conception, implementation, testing and continuous optimization.

All in all, my role is a great package of professional quality, collaboration and performance that I really enjoy."

Wondering how to migrate a project to a client's organisation after completion while retaining all links? There is now a Figma feature that makes this process much easier.

Our UX/UI designer Sabrina recently published a helpful post about this in the Figma Forum. It's about facilitating project migration after the introduction of this new feature. The pictures already give you a hint, you can find more detailed instructions in Sabrina's thread in the forum 💡

After completing a project, we had the challenge of migrating it to our client’s organisation while retaining all links. Figma has now introduced a feature that makes the migration easier: “Transfer project to an external organisation”. This makes the transfer much easier, as previously Figma ...

Last week, during a trip to Switzerland, our managing director Frank Jacob became aware of an interesting exhibition that interprets robotics not only scientifically, but also critically and playfully. We are talking about "Bits n Bolts - the Robotival", which is taking place on 4 and 5 March in Zurich and should be worth a visit. Here, creative minds from fields such as mechatronics, design, visual communication and physics invite you to explore the versatility of robotics. The multi-sensory, interactive exhibition and its diverse supporting programme will take place at the Zentralwäscherei Zurich. If you're in the area, be sure to stop by.

À propos putting out feelers: We are happy to be on the road again on a regular basis!

Tuesday evening, our COO Sandra took part in the first Social Developers Club Meet Up of the new year at Kuehne + Nagel at the HafenCity. Under the title Real Time Tracking Everywhere, an interesting World Café on Big Data innovations in the logistics industry took place - and the whole thing with a great view over the Port of Hamburg!

Sandra had intensive discussions with other participants at various stations on topics such as business analysis, UX, user interviews, product responsibility, software architecture guidelines and front-end development. In addition, there were delicious snacks and a relaxed atmosphere. Many thanks for the successful Meet Up Social Developers Club!

Good food is the most intimate bond of good company - and because we at Human Interface Design not only like to eat with the team, but also cook together, we met last week to prepare a traditional Chinese hotpot under the guidance of our UI designers Jie and Hedi. We chopped, feasted and laughed - and spent a colourful, delicious evening in the Hamburg office

At the same time, we celebrated the Chinese New Year - the Year of the Rabbit - and toasted 2023 together. Happy New Year!

The escalating climate crisis is not only a direct threat to the lives of all people, it is also directly related to the multiple social crises of our time. The effects of climate change are destroying the livelihoods of many people. Whether in Pakistan or in Ahrtal - people are losing their homes and livelihoods.

In the conviction that now and today is the time to act, students of the Master's programme Transformation Studies - and thus also our Social Media Manager Tamina - are organising the conference "Zukunft(s)gestalten 2023 - zusammen+finden" (Shaping the future 2023 - finding together) at Europa-Universität Flensburg from 17 to 19 January. The aim is to find future perspectives, concrete options for action and approaches to solutions for the crises of our time in a joint discussion in order to share and make accessible the contents of the study programme. To this end, the students will give a variety of interesting lectures, which will be complemented by a colourful supporting programme, discussion and networking spaces.

"With our conference, we want to tie in with such and other positive visions of the future and talk about what a future living together can look like and how we can get there."

The conference is free, open to all and will take place in selected locations in the immediate vicinity of the Flensburger Förde.

The Human Interface Design team wishes the students much success for their presentations and an interesting conference with many participants - maybe even with some from Hamburg and Kiel!

In times like these, we decided to donate our Christmas communication budget to support the exhausted pigeons of peace in Ukraine by sending some seagulls from Hamburg and Kiel.

Thank you for the wonderful cooperation throughout 2022.
We wish you all the best for 2023!

Until the beginning of next year and for the second time since the opening, we can enjoy the great works of the artist duo Lecker & Heiß in our Kiel office. By combining their individual worlds and techniques, they create exciting works of art that totally inspire our Kiel employees in their work and are definitely worth a visit to the gallery Edition Berlin.

"Karla Helene Hecker paints surreal landscapes and symbolic scenes with a great sense of colour, composition and depth in her technique, which is related to Japanese lacquer painting. Levke Leiß's crayon drawings of old-masterly precision and captivating clarity are also created in many layers of colour and retain the lightness of a work on paper while retaining great luminosity."

The exhibition can be seen on weekends until 15 January.

Celebrate like "Papa Noël" in France!

On the occasion of our Christmas party, we went on a culinary trip to the Brasserie La Provence and had a lot of tun together besides delicious food. We really enjoyed being almost all together at one table and having lots of nice conversations. A big "Santé!" from the whole team goes to Lisa, Tamina and Johanna, who unfortunately were ill that evening.

Funny site kick: while researching this post, we not only learned what Santa Claus means in French, but also that he doesn't have a sack in France, but a pannier, as used for the grape harvest - C'est ça la vie française!
