The tricky third year, they say that about relationships, but we can’t confirm that. 🎉

Since September 2023, we’ve been standing on our own two feet after our scholarships ended, and 2026 is a special year for us. We’ve gotten around quite a bit so far: re:publica in Berlin, photoshoot and fashion show in Paris, pop-up store in Vienna, plus workshops in Hamburg and Frankfurt, and more. 🔥🔥🔥

It’s also nice to look back on anniversaries like this and see where we came from and everything we’ve already experienced.☺️

What we’ve noticed more and more this year: interest in counter-surveillance fashion has grown – and with it, of course, the very reason we do this whole thing in the first place: it’s moving further into the public discourse. ✊

We hope this trend continues into next year. We’d be happy to have you continue joining us on our journey. 🫶

What a summer! We definitely got around this year. 🌍

One of our highlights was the photoshoot of our collection „Faception Reloaded“ with CHIARA TOKI in Paris. We shot with models Nila from Smila 🇺🇦 and Kevinsparker at Chiara’s photo studio, and afterwards we drove to a high-rise district of Paris, where we were blown away by the buildings. A little hidden gem was tucked away on an outdoor platform of one of the buildings we were allowed into. And hair and makeup artist Nanna Macera , of course, always had the perfect hair and makeup in mind.

It was a very hot day, but we started shooting early, so we could avoid the intense afternoon heat. It was truly a wonderful day with an amazing team, one we won’t forget anytime soon, and you can see it in the photos we’ll be sharing here bit by bit. In times of AI, where photos can be created with just a few prompts, we place great value on authentic photos with real people! 🙌

After months of planning, the grand opening of the pop-up store at piercingstudio in Vienna! 🎉

Before the event could kick off, we worked hard with Rene to dress the storefront window and transformed the XQ portal into a pop-up store. After some hurdles with the foil, we’re more than proud of the final result. 🙌

And just like that – the opening event was upon us. The title was naturally “Let’s Confuse the Algorithm“ – and that was also the program. Alongside showcasing our collection and the talk “Ganz schön Unsichtbar“ (Quite Invisible), where we addressed surveillance from an art and design perspective, the performance by .in with and was the absolute highlight of the evening.🔥🔥🔥

It became clear how algorithms react to the body and how often they get it wrong. Next to beats by Ferdi, there were great conversations and the chance to try out the collection live. For that, we brought our test algorithm.

For everyone living in Vienna or planning a stop here: The pop-up store will remain at the XQ Portal until the end of January and can be visited during XQ’s regular opening hours. The team is already looking forward to seeing you! 💕

Celebrity-approved. Millions sold. Marketed as the future of eyewear - or as we like to call it: future creepware. 🕶️

Kylie Jenner and other influencers have been promoting Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses as a fashion statement - not a surveillance device. The goal is clear: make wearing a camera on your face as normal as wearing sunglasses.

But the privacy implications run deeper than the marketing suggests:

● Hard to detect - Two white LEDs signal recording, one facing outward, one toward the wearer. But they’re tiny and easily missed, especially in daylight.

● LED bypass - Professional services have offered to drill out the privacy LED entirely. Meta has since released a mandatory update that disables the camera if the LED is tampered with, but workarounds persist.

● Voice commands leave no trace - Recording can be triggered without pressing a button. No visible interaction, no obvious cue.

● Future models will be more invasive - Upcoming generations feature always-on AI, facial recognition, and continuous background processing. Harder to detect, not easier.

● Shared spaces become invisible data pipelines - Everyone around a wearer could potentially be recorded or streamed without knowing.

„Never gonna give you up“ war das Motto der diesjährigen . Und was sollen wir sagen: Noch nie war das Motto so treffend wie jetzt.

Die Welt steht gefühlt vor dem Abgrund - aber das meinte das Motto nicht. Es ging vielmehr darum, gerade in Krisenzeiten die Hoffnung nicht zu verlieren und sich selbst nicht aufzugeben.

*Und genau diese Haltung fanden wir an unserem ‚Mit-Mach‘-Stand wieder: Bei Organisationen, die Politik verändern wollen - wie Digitalcourage oder . Bei Filmemachern, die Missstände sichtbar machen - etwa mit Total Trust oder Face It, zwei Werken, die unsere eigene Arbeit maßgeblich geprägt haben.* Und Menschen, die in ihrer Position Potentiale erkennen und fördern - wie die Person, die unseren EXIST-Antrag durchgebracht hat (eine der Begegnungen, die uns lange im Gedächtnis bleiben wird!).

Es waren zwar anstrengende Tage, dafür sind wir mit dem Gefühl aufgeladen, nicht allein kämpfen zu müssen. Wir gehen voller Inspiration und gegenseitiger Wertschätzung nach Hause.

Hello, hier gibt’s mal wieder ein kleines (aber feines!) Lebenszeichen von uns!👋

Es ist viel passiert in letzter Zeit! Wir waren voll in der Produktion verstrickt und haben gleichzeitig neue Events und Kooperationen organisiert.

Was passiert als nächstes? Die steht vor der Tür! Wir stellen aus und freuen uns riesig darauf, euch dort zu sehen!

Aber zuerst: Ein Blick zurück auf die „Future Boutique“. Ein absolut bunter Abend voller Fashion, Vibes und Inspiration! Dort gab’s nicht nur Fashion, sondern auch einen kleinen „Wissens-Snack“: Wir haben einen Vortrag über Privacy-Themen und unsere Arbeit gehalten.

Und das Highlight? Die Fashionshow von dem Leipziger Label ! Unser Cap durfte als Accessoire glänzen und es war schön, es auf dem Laufsteg in Action zu sehen!

Insgesamt ein wirklich gelungener Abend mit unzähligen inspirierenden Gesprächen. Ein riesiges DANKESCHÖN an alle für die tolle Atmosphäre und Organisation. Auch ein riesiges DANKESCHÖN an , die die ganzen Momente des Abends fotografisch eingefangen hat. 🤩
