A little weekend outfit recap from a friend’s birthday party at Deerstone Ranch near Riesa, Saxony. 🤠

Good food, nice people and a pretty fitting location for a bit of Western-inspired style. The theme, by the way, was that everyone should wear something glittery. I managed to bring myself to wear a gold-glittery pocket square. 😅

But the real question is: does a rodeo cowboy hat actually suit me?

The end of summer is slowly approaching, temperatures are finally dropping a little, and that means one thing I’ve been waiting for: layering season is back. 😎

For a while now, this beautiful corduroy Western shirt from FlannelGo has been waiting in my wardrobe for its first proper outing. The slightly heavier fabric and warm brown colour make it perfect for these in-between days.

I paired it with a rather unusual piece of military history: an NVA field jacket from the former East German Army. This particular model was part of a so-called uniform trial and was never actually issued to soldiers.

What I find interesting is the pocket arrangement, which visually reminds me of some of the earlier summer field jackets used by NATO armies. Another little example of how military clothing from very different backgrounds can influence and inspire modern outfits.

And honestly, I’m just happy I can finally wear more than one layer again. 😄

How are you feeling today?

Some mornings as a dad already feel like an emotional rollercoaster before I’ve even left the house.

Getting my little one ready for daycare means navigating excitement, tiredness, frustration, negotiation, laughter… sometimes all within a few minutes. And while I’m helping him through all those big feelings, they don’t just bounce off me. They affect me, too.

By the time we finally make it out the door, I’ve probably been through half a dozen moods myself. 😅

So today, I’m somewhere between everything in the slides 😅

Today only in 🇩🇪

Am Wochenende war die Velocipediade HISTORISCHE FAHRRÄDER E.V. zu Gast in Magdeburg – und als begeisterter Besitzer von zwei historischen Fahrrädern konnte ich mir das natürlich nicht entgehen lassen. 🚲

Zum einen besitze ich ein Loco-Fahrrad aus den 1950er-Jahren, gebaut in Stuttgart, zum anderen ein Diamantrad aus den 1970ern. Diesmal durfte also nicht nur die Vintage-Kleidung mit, sondern auch das passende Fahrrad. 😉

Nach vielen interessanten Gesprächen mit Vereinsmitgliedern und dem Bestaunen unzähliger Fahrrad-Oldtimer im schönen Ambiente des Ravelin 2 folgte das Highlight: eine gemeinsame Ausfahrt mit rund 200 Teilnehmern durch Magdeburg.

Dabei gab es Fahrradgeschichte aus rund 150 Jahren zu entdecken – von bekannten Klassikern bis hin zu echten Kuriositäten und Fahrrädern, die heute nur noch in sehr geringer Stückzahl erhalten sind.

Für mich eine ziemlich perfekte Kombination aus Geschichte, Technik, Vintage und natürlich einer ordentlichen Portion Fahrradfahren. Wobei das mit dem Fahrradfahren bei mir ja nun wirklich nichts Ungewöhnliches ist. 😄

Zum Abschluss ging es mit meiner Familie noch auf ein Eis in die Innenstadt. Ein schöner Abschluss für einen rundum gelungenen Vormittag.

Wer von euch hätte bei so einer Ausfahrt auch Lust bekommen, mal wieder ein altes Fahrrad aus der Garage zu holen?

Vacation Lesson Number 2: Always bring a good hat. ☀️

Our latest holiday adventure took us to the Flugtechnisches Museum in Rechlin. And while our little one was fascinated by the helicopters… for about five minutes, that is. 😄

After that, the playground suddenly became much more interesting, and our museum visit turned into a bit of a family speed run.

Still, it’s a really interesting museum with plenty of great exhibits and definitely worth a visit.

Luckily, I had my new trusty companion with me: a Boonie Hat made from original NVA Blumentarn fabric. Perfect for the bright sunshine and, unlike my lace-up shoes from the previous vacation lesson, actually a very good decision. 😉

Tomorrow, we’re finally heading off on vacation! ☀️

I don’t know about you, but for me the holiday starts the moment the suitcase is packed. And yes… I’ve probably spent more time thinking about which outfits to bring than I’d like to admit. 😄

Two weeks, a suitcase full of heritage, workwear and a few Hawaiian shirts. Now all that’s missing is a bit of sunshine and we’re good to go.

See you in two weeks—with hopefully lots of new memories, a few good outfit photos and maybe one or two vintage discoveries along the way.
