Eliminar el concepte de residu. Reemplaçar el model de consum actual d’agafar-fabricar-llençar per un de circular. Gestionar de forma intel·ligent els recursos del planeta. Crear productes reutilitzables, modulars, actualitzables, desmuntables, reparables, funcionals, durables, amb bon envelliment i, finalment, reciclables. Utilitzar materials sense tòxics.

er propiciar aquest canvi. Dissenyar amb cura. Ser efectiu abans que eficient. Contemplar tot el cicle de vida en la fase de disseny. Pensar en sistemes. Ser conscients que tot està connectat a tot.
3. Dissenyar productes que reivindiquin l’estat del sistema actual i que assenyalin els problemes que la nostra societat ha d’afrontar. Que aquests productes exemplifiquin alternatives de consum reals.
4. Oferir una combinació de coneixement tàcit i explícit, per potenciar un consum actiu i responsable mitjançant l’experimentació en primera persona i la difusió d’informació.
5. Donar espai a la creativitat i a la participació de la gent.
6. Combinar tecnologies velles amb noves: agafar el millor del passat i el millor del futur. Equilibri entre teoria i pràctica, entre real i virtual, entre anlògic i digital. Equilibri entre autoproducció i industrialització, entre petita escala i gran escala, entre global i local.
7. Completar el cercle en totes les dimensions.

Due to COVID-19 we have had to postpone the release of FOS, the eyewear brand that we have been giving shape to for the last few months. However, since we are all at home, we wanted to introduce you to our new account to be able to keep you informed about this project while we get out of this situation.

The word FOS, from melted in Catalan, also means light or clarity in Greek, which comes in handy considering we are making eyewear, objects that we use on days of radiant sun or bright techno! 😎

What’s special about FOS eyewear?
Its uniqueness. The fabrication process that makes it impossible to make two pairs the same.
The materials used. We only use Barcelona’s waste to make them.
Its design. Conceived to be extremely easy to loop back into production due to the monomaterial design.
The intentions of the project. Our moulds will be available for other organisations and individuals to produce these sunglasses in their ecosystem, thus avoiding shipping goods too far.

We will keep to show you broader design projects that our studio is involved in.

Degut al COVID-19 hem hagut de posposar el llançament de FOS, la marca d’ulleres en la que hem estat treballant els últims mesos. Malgrat això, com que estem tots a casa, us volem presentar el nou instagram , i així mantenir-vos informats d'aquest projecte mentre sortim d’aquesta situació.

La paraula FOS ve del verb fondre en Català, i també significa llum i claror en Grec, força adient si estem parlant d'ulleres, un objecte que s'utilitza en dies de sol radiant o dies de techno brillant! 😎

Mantindrem per mostrar-vos els altres projectes de disseny en els que estem involucrats.

El COVID-19 ha canviat radicalment la forma en què treballen i s'organitzen milions de persones. Nosaltres també ens estem adaptant i hem cancel·lat totes les activitats fins que la situació millori. La botiga online segueix oberta, però només enviarem les ulleres que tenim en estoc.

Aquests dies ens estan servint per treballar a un altre ritme i reflexionar sobre tot plegat. Observem la poca resiliència del sistema de producció i consum actual en veure la interrupció de les cadenes de subministrament degut, entre altres coses, a la distància geogràfica. Veiem també com s'especula amb productes de primera necessitat en múltiples casos.

Per altra banda, ens emociona veure com el moviment Maker ha agafat iniciativa produint material mèdic localment per trobar solucions a emergències en un temps rècord. Aquests fets posen de manifest la rellevància del disseny obert i la producció distribuïda, mostrant que una altra forma de produir i consumir no només és possible, sinó molt més eficaç.

COVID-19 has radically changed the way millions of people work and get organised. We are also adapting and have cancelled all the activities until the situation betters. Our online shop is still available, however, we will only send the pairs that we have in stock.

These days are allowing us to work at a different pace and reflect upon what's happening. We are observing the little resilience of the current system of production and consumption, seeing the disruption of production chains due to geographical distance. We have also seen the speculation with products of first necessity.

On the other hand, we are thrilled to see how the Maker movement has gained momentum by producing medical equipment locally finding solutions to emergencies in record time. These facts confirm how relevant open-source-design and distributed production are. This proves that another way of producing and consuming is not only possible but much more effective.

We've finally found a special material with low environmental impacts.

Our sunglasses covers are made with this awesome felt made entirely by waste textiles. Just like our sunglasses they offer a strong narrative related to the materials they are made of.

We all have covers laying around the house, so if you don't need one tell us and we will give it to the next user who does.

This material comes from the Netherlands, so if anyone knows where we can find it in Spain, please let us know! Cheers.

This is the machine we use to melt and inject the plastic into the moulds. We like the fact that it is human-scaled and easy to use. The size of the barrel allows us to mix different colours for every pair. This is why the colour of each pair of sunglasses is one of a kind.

Once we've shredded the plastic we want to use for our sunglasses, we need to weight out the exact amount to achieve the desired results.

For a pair of FOS using the primary colours, we would need to weigh out 97% translucent, 1% blue 1% red 1% yellow. However, no matter how precise you are with the weighting, every pair will come out different due to the random movement of the colour particles within the fluid. This is the magic of this process!✨

Currently, due to the way the production and consumption system has been organised over the last centuries, a material can travel around the world various times before being embedded into a product. Once the product is made, it will cruise the world again, before it arrives at the hands of the end consumer. The social and environmental impacts associated with this are harmful and dangerously high.
We believe one way of avoiding these, is by designing with materials that are available within the context in which they will be used and distributing them within a reasonable distance radius. Outside of this particular radius, there should be another fabrication centre with products to serve its radius.
The size of this radius is what we are trying to find out, as well as how to avoid shipping sunglasses far away.

This photo is from the first shoot we did a year ago, covering our friends Irene and Nil with shredded plastic, a bright idea. You can see Nil trying to smile while thinking f #.t6%&ers!!

We've now paired with the unique to start a series of new photoshoots with more friends! Stay tuned to see the results.

Dario was one of the first people to fabricate a pair of FOS sunglasses at our Beta workshop two summer ago. The other day he told us that he is still using them and that they are holding up their shape perfectly, this news makes us very happy!

You can also make your own sunglasses at our fabrication workshops on the first Thursday of every month.

These are our lenses. When you buy a pair of FOS sunglasses you can choose which work best for you. If you need them to be prescribed we can also make that happen. Just let us know what you need exactly and we will do the rest.
With the help of our optician we can even do clear lenses so you're never without your pair of FOS. 🤓
