Textiles and their properties: Natural Silk

One of the oldest known luxury natural fibers, the Silk. Silk is a very special natural fiber, as it is the only protein natural filament fiber.

It is soft, lustrous and smooth to the touch. Long considered a luxury fiber, sometimes referred as the “queen of fabrics”.

According to archeological evidence, silk has been used for at least 5000 years. It became very popular during the Han Dynasty when silk became an important currency.

Seda Collections is currently creating a collection with silk shirts. A collection to make you feel elegant and beautiful while keeping the comfort.

The Seda Collections Silk Scarves: The Aqua classic silk square scarf features a double-colored reversible natural silk square motif which is inspired by the southwestern Aegean Region of Turkey, Bodrum. A turquoise and violet spring/summer classic print reflection of the characteristic landscapes of Bodrum, violet bougainvilleas next to the blue sea. The accessory can be tied around the neck or head for a touch of color to any look.

Seda Collections and its endless scarf-styling possibilities: Wearing a silk scarf to layer under button downs,sweaters and t-shirts is a quick way to bring new life into our working from home wardrobes.

In Seda Collections we bring you two tips on how to style those scarves. For both of the styles fold the scarf in half like a triangle, then continue to fold over and over again in approximately 6 cm increments until you’re left with one long strip. Next, tie the folded scarf at your neck.
One of the options is to tie it in the front as in the picture and have the triangle shape at the back. As a second option, you can tie the folded scarf at the nape of your neck, and tuck any excess fabric under the neckline of your top.

To have a better understanding of which fabrics Seda Collections uses and its facts, we are introducing “The Textile Talks”.

The textile we will be addressing in today’s talk is one of the oldest known luxury natural fibers, the Silk:

Silk is a very special natural fiber, as it is the only protein natural filament fiber. It is soft, lustrous and smooth to the touch. Textile-used silk was often obtained from smooth caterpillars. Long considered a luxury fiber, sometimes referred as the “queen of fabrics”.

According to archeological evidence, silk has been used for at least 5000 years. According to one of the Chinese legends, Empress Hsi Ling-Shih and wife of the Yellow Emperor, sat under a mulberry tree and discovered that silkworm cocoons were made of a delicate thread. The Empress then learned how to make luxurious fabric by spinning the silk. It became very popular during the Han Dynasty when silk became an important currency.
