During training and racing, athletes generate a huge amount of heat inside the body. In fact, only around 20% of the energy produced contributes to mechanical power. The rest becomes heat that accumulates inside the body.
This is a natural process, but excess heat needs to be dissipated through evaporation at the skin. Sweat, or additional water applied to the skin, absorbs heat and removes it as it evaporates, helping prevent overheating. The key is keeping this cooling system running efficiently. Hydration plays an important role, but adding more water can also help because water becomes fuel for cooling.

The formula is simple:
More surface covered = more controlled evaporation = more heat removed = more cooling watts (a measure of how much excess heat your body is dissipating).
