When we think about a Montessori baby environment, we often think about mobiles, mirrors, and movement mats.
But just as important is helping the baby gradually understand what each space is for.
The sleeping area is for rest.
The movement area is for observation, movement, and exploration.
That's why Montessori mobiles are usually placed in the movement area, where a baby can observe them while awake and alert, rather than in the sleeping space.
I've just published a new blog post about creating a Montessori baby environment, including the role of sleep spaces, movement areas, observation, and visual mobiles during the first months of life. 🤍
