This Saturday saw one of the biggest celebrations in cycling right now: Portal Attack in Berga. Participants race on classic bikes (with downtube shifters) around a circuit that is mostly uphill, through the narrow streets of the city’s old town. Riders go through a series of knockout rounds until only four are left standing for the final.
On the start line, we had Gil Martinez, who at just 16 years old took on some of the best riders out there and made it all the way to a brutally tough semi-final. He was eliminated after finishing second behind Adrià Noguera, who would later go on to finish runner-up in the final. Congrats, Gil! You absolutely smashed it, mate! To give you an idea of the level of competition, the winner of the 2026 edition was Olympic ski mountaineer Ot Ferrer.
But competition aside, Portal Attack is one hell of a party. Live music, fireworks, a bike jump contest, food trucks, and a huge crowd cheering their lungs out. Huge congratulations to the organisers, we had an amazing time. We’ll definitely be back next year!
