A nation's wealth is defined by its traditions and cultures. While living within it, we embrace, uphold, and cherish these elements. For nearly 35 years, I have lived away from my homeland, fully immersing myself in Finnish culture and language as one is supposed to. Despite this, I hold dear many aspects of my Ethiopian heritage.
When you leave your country, there’s only so much you can take with you. Imagine if you can take this journey with family and friends! However, often it's just you, your language, a few cherished recipes, spices, and memories. My love for Ethiopia endures through its remarkable food, the melodic language, familial traditions, and exquisite traditional attire.
I've dedicated myself to infusing the intricate beauty of Ethiopian traditional clothing into my creations. Growing up in an Orthodox family, I was captivated by the vibrant garments and magnificent crosses of the church clergy. These diverse and beautiful crosses have inspired the designs that adorn our traditional dresses.
I’ve always aspired to integrate my culture into my work, blending the love for embroidery and ornamentation with a touch of simplicity. My designs, inspired by Orthodox crosses, are not overwhelming but rather embody a modern, classical, and elegant beauty.
