Jaanahaaksiluotodesign

Jaanahaaksiluotodesign jaanahaaksiluoto is an independent fashion brand based in Finland, which creates edgy yet wearable and sustainable women's wear & accessories.

Collections fuse minimalist and simplified style with detailed finishings in order to create edgy yet wearable woman's wear. Pieces have an alternative style with an individual appeal as opposed to the anonymity of the mass produced and strictly seasonal pieces. The label has a strong Finnish identity. Emphasis is put on a good craftsmanship and high quality materials. For us it is important to ha

ve a personal connection to all the sub-contractors we use. All the products are designed and manufactured with care in Finland or in the neighboring Estonia. Collections are manufactured in small batches and numbered accordingly. The production is planned so that the textile surplus will remain as low as possible and used, when possible, for the next designs. Pieces have modern and relaxed look with a touch of nostalgia. We see that there is an unchanging beauty in simplicity and want to keep that in mind in the design process. We see easiness and functionality as important elements of the collections as the look. The clean lines and cuts are complimented with detailed finishings without compromising the functionality of the clothes. Collections have pieces which can easily transform from casual to more dressy occasion with different combinations and accessories . Our philosophy:

Well designed garment does not only look good - it should also feel good and bring joy and pleasure to its owner. Well made and designed clothes last a lifetime with good care - they come along with us from one important live event to another. Ethics throughout all the states of the production should be taken as seriously in fashion as in any other industry. For us high fashion walks hand in hand with high appreciation on good craftsmanship.

"Vuosirenkaita", Annual Rings - soulder piece / wall textile made from surplus textiles

The starting point was a white shirt – a contemporary uniform. An everyday protection. A role. A surface to stand behind.

I detached the collar and began reshaping it,
allowing it to grow layer by layer. As the work expanded, the layers began to resemble annual rings –traces of a lived life.

At the same time, what once served as concealment becomes visible. The collar no longer offers the illusion of protection –
it speaks of a lived life, of the fragility of unfinished fabric, and of the passage of time.

Vuosirenkaita - tekstiiliylijäämästä valmistettu hartiakoru / seinätekstiili

Lähtökohtana oli valkoinen paitapusero – tämän ajan uniformu. Arkinen suoja. Rooli. Pinta, jonka taakse voi asettua.

Irrotin kauluksen ja aloin muokata sitä.
Kasvatin sitä kerros kerrokselta. Työn kasvaessa kerrokset alkoivat muistuttaa vuosirenkaita –
jälkiä eletystä elämästä. Samalla se, minkä taakse on piilouduttu, alkaa näkyä.

Kaulus ei enää tuo näennäistä suojaa –
se kertoo eletystä elämästä, viimeistelemättömän kankaan hauraudesta
ja ajan kulusta.

Close-ups of the costumes and textiles I created for Anna Estarriola’s installation, ”Staged Circumstances and Piles of Things” - a 3-piece work created exclusively for her solo show at Amos Rex, Helsinki.

Every detail in this installation is brought to life through a combination of textires, colors, and finishes, all chosen with intention and care. Nothing is arbitrary - everything is chosen with care and intention.

Tiina Etelämäki, Chief of vanhustyön keskusliitto wears a red silk gown with Ribon embellishment on top.

I created the top part of the gown by using basket weaving (koripunonta) which has been chosen as a handicraft technique for the year 2024 Käsi-ja taideteollisuusliitto Taito ry. Idea was to create an evening gown that could be worn later for less official occasions, so I made the top part of the gown seperate, so that the dress underneath can be worn on its own as a more simple version of the gown. Making evening gowns more multi-functional feels like an idea I might want to create further in the future.
