Spirals dresses from Spring Summer 2023 at for exhibition opened this weekend in New York.

The Costume Institute’s spring 2026 exhibition explores depictions of the dressed body across The Met’s vast collection, pairing garments with artworks to reveal the inherent relationship between clothing and the body.
Richard Avedon’s reading of skin as a surface marked by time is echoed in Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant’s Coperni Spring Summer 2023 collection. The dresses feature diagonal cuts across the torso linked by spiral cords, evoking a sense of tension and repair.
Here, the garments act as a second skin, exploring the boundary between body and material through incision, exposure, and structure.
