A reference can become a motif.

Or it can become information.

Zaha Hadid didn't need to reproduce a Malevich painting for its ideas to enter architecture.

What could travel instead were relationships — displacement, direction, tension, balance.

The image could disappear.

The thinking could remain.

The square does not need to survive.
The relationship does.

I’ve finished making the last of the bags from my website.

From now on, I’ll only be making pottery tool cases. After years of constantly designing, making, producing and selling, I’m ready to step away from this kind of creative work. I’ve genuinely had enough of it.

I have new projects taking shape — very different ones — and I’m excited to put my energy somewhere new.

For now, just finishing the last stitches. ✂️

They hold a garment together and give it shape.

But they are also design.

A seam can draw a line.
A dart can redirect volume.
A raw edge can create texture.
A join can become part of the surface.

Construction doesn't only answer **how something is made**.

It can change **what the design becomes**.

A building doesn't have to become another building.

When Tinker Hatfield looked at the Centre Pompidou, the useful idea wasn't its shape, colour or surface.

It was a principle:

Make the internal function visible.

That principle could leave the building — and become a design decision in the Nike Air Max 1.

This is the step between inspiration and design that interests me most:

You don't have to transfer the form.
You can transfer the principle.
