I've been absent for a little while but I'm back and u'll try to post regularly.

Not so long ago I discovered smoked oxtail sold in an African store near me. Listen THIS IS LIFE! Where has this been all my life.

When I had a 1st taste of smoked oxtail, I decided THAT DAY that i'll never go back to regular oxtail ever again.

This is my sunday meal: white rice, smoked oxtail and gumbo and sós pwa wouj!!!

My Sister is home, she loves to cook. Even more than I do. She tries all kind of recipes and makes her own recipes also.

This meal is from 🇾🇪. One if her friends taught her. This is MUY DELICIOSO! With all the spices combined, it's an explosion of flavour in your mouth.

Soup Joumou! Freedom soup!

During slavery, Joumou (giromon in french which is like a pumpkin) was a delicacy only the same masters was alowed to eat.

Slave were pretty much malnourished in these hard time.

The battle took place November 18th 1803 at Vertière and independence was declared January 1st 1804.

Dessalines's wife Marie Claire Heureuse Félicité states that freedom could not be celebrated on an empty stomach.

They decided to make and consume this soup: a meal forbidden to them by their french slave masters.

To honor those Who right for our freedom and to celebrate our independence every January 1st in almost all haitian households with eat this soup.

Johnny cake

I was born and raised in Saint-Martin (French West Indies) so Johnny cakes are a must!

Also know as Bakes in other islands, we usually eat them at BBQ's.
They're like little breads and can be baked or fried.

I always use to eat them but never knew how to make them. I failed many times.

So during the 1st lock down i asked for a recipe and after a couple of tries I think I got it right!

If you ever had Johnny cakes (Bakes), how do you love them? Bake or fry!
