We are very pleased to officially announce the Weave Up+ (WUP+) project; a logical continuation of the first phase, Weave Up!, which ran from 2023 to 2025! Co-funded by the European Commission's Creative Europe program, Weave Up+ is a textile project created by five European partners: HS_Projets (France), Ideias Emergentes (Portugal), Lottozero (Italy), the Saxon Textile Research Institute (Germany), and the Mykhailo Boychuk Kyiv State Academy of Decorative and Applied Arts and Design (Ukraine).
WUP+ reinvents the "Grand Tour" as a contemporary, itinerant, eco-friendly, and collaborative textile training experience. Through a series of journeys across Europe, the project reconnects designers and creators with the raw materials, innovative skills, recycling process, and European territories that shape textiles.
Based on the principles of slow travel, WUP+ encourages participants to slow down in order to better observe, understand, and experiment. Travel becomes a tool for research and creation, fostering encounters with artisans, producers, designers, and other stakeholders in the textile industry.

Before the big news...! Discover the travelling exhibition of the Weave Up! project on the website; the cycle of four European materials: linen, wool, leather alternatives and textile cork. A three-year journey through Portugal, Lithuania and France for master designers and young designers. You can watch the whole journeythrough four documentaries available on the project's website.
We will be continuing our projects with these valuable partners, which we hope will expand further across Europe and introduce you to new textile materials and techniques!
The Weave Up! project had been possible thanks to the support of Creative Europe programme, and of course thé help of the Relai Culture Europe. The travelling exhibition was designed by Trois Fois Rien collective.

"Those who worry about their grandchildren plant a cork oak”
As cork is one of the main Portuguese raw materials and as its oak lifespan can reach up to 200 years, cork production and innovation are truly important for the European ecosystem and textile development. This is why Weave Up! project choose textile cork as one of its 4 materials to work on.
Until June 21, in Showroom Galerie 7 (Lyon, France) you can discover the cork experiments led by Lucile Drouet, Verena Brom, Ivis de Aguiar Souza, Catarino de Jesus Bere, Monica Faria, Ana Leandro, Sofia Mingaleeva and Sergei Zinchuk, during Weave Up! project. They worked on innovative cork applications and ways to mix it with other materials, in Portugal in 2023 and 2024, thanks to Ideias Emergentes.
Weave Up! project is co-financed by the European Union, and HS_Projets, Ideias Emergentes and the Vilnius Academy of Arts.

Throwback on the leather&skins workshop made in Lyon, France thanks to Hernani Reis Baptista, master designer, the FITE - Textile Biennial team and ESAA - La Martinière Diderot for their laboratory.
During the workshop, the leather&skins participants led by Hernâni, had the opportunity to visit ITCYOS fish leather manufacturing company, to broaden our vision of by-products leather. The goal of the workshop settle in the ESAA school was then to understand and discover ways to create skins from waste, by-products and what can be found in our own kitchen, in order to think about possible applications in design, fashion and art.
WUP participants were invited to experiment with Hernani recipes to explore the world of biomaterials, bioplastics and biocomposites. Natural dyeing through botanic printing was also made on natural fabrics. Then using leftover materials from industry as printing support.
On top of the experiments made, participants also had a glance of AuRA region and Lyon artistic and textile scene through Lyon contemporary art biennial, Tina Marais exhibition at the Showroom Galerie 7 and finally Garance Alves and Marie George performance's ''Mue''.
Students from ESAA were also present and had the possibility to exchange and meet with the WUP team. It was a way to continue the know-how transfer and teaching ideas developped during the whole WUP project.
A huge thank to all the professionals, students, artists, cultural spaces and institutions who welcomed Weave Up project and participants during this workshop in Lyon, and of course of the participants and organizers.

Throwback on the linen workshop made in Vilnius, Lithuania thanks to Head of the Textile Art and Design Department of the Vilnius Academy of Arts.

During the workshop, the linen participants led by Silvija Juozelskyte, Weave Up linen master designer, had the opportunity to visit linen manufacturing companies in top of heritage collections. The goal was to understand and discover the flax and linen importance in the lithuanian folklore and history, but also the state of this material industry and creative or design practices nowadays.
After this tour, WUP participants were invited to experiment with linen by-products and wastes of the companies visited in the Textile Art and Design department of the VAA.
Silvija Juozelskytė taught and demonstrated the possibilities of different weaving methods to the group.
Jakub Swiecicki prototyped a handbag from linen leftovers and a unique pattern for knitting, using two-color linen threads from Siūlas factory
Mari-TriinKirs experimented with computerized weaving loom and linen fabric waste and threads, to create 3 unique three-dimensional fabrics.
Lucie Maine analyzed ethnographic linen textiles by using weaving, knitting and sewing methods.
Naomi Rossignol created a collection of knitted linen materials, for medical purposes as knitting is elastic so it can be used as a medical bandage. But also as inen is sterile and with the addition of disinfectant plants.
Jolanta Sendaitė-Paulauskienė looked after natural and unbleached linen threadby to create thin linen knitwear.
And finally, M***a Beca analyzed the theme of women and motherhood, and created a collection of patterns on linen fabrics.
A huge thank to all the companies, people, cultural spaces and institutions that welcomed Weave Up project and participants during this workshop in Lithuania, in top of the participants and organizers.

Weave Up ! has presented its work in progress between and at The « European Arts, Crafts and Heritage: Traditional skills and know-how to innovative techniques for tomorrow’s careers! » - 3 days focusing on the continuity of teaching and learning pathways in arts, crafts and heritage. Organized by The French Erasmus+ Agency.
Among some eminent sites in the French capital dedicated to study creation and restoration in arts, crafts and heritage, participants were invited to discuss some issues such as sustainable development, digital technology and know-how transmission. They have also discussed how to introduce these topics in their curricula, sharing teaching practices, course organization and training accessibility.
This TCA is organised in partnership with : The French Ministry of Culture, The Institut National du Patrimoine, The Mobilier National, The Campus MoMADe - Manufacture des Gobelins, The Campus Versailles - Heritage & Craftmanship of Excellence. This TCA will contribute to building bridges between European and French education and training professionals in the field of arts, crafts and heritage.

During the 4 residencies of Weave Up! project, video recordings were made to register the researches and experimentations of our designers teams.
Here a little teaser of the wool residency led by Elisabeth Berthon as master designer, and Severija Inčirauskaitė-Kriaunevičienė as coordinator for the wool residency. Thanks again to our 6 participants for following this journey in Lithuania !
The second part of the wool project will be held in Creuse (France) thanks to Lainamac, villa Chateaufavier and HS Projets / FITE - Biennale Textile Clermont-Ferrand
