Mesdames et Messieurs, bienvenue sur la Croisette
The curtain rises on the 79th Festival de Cannes, May 12–23, 2026. As the Mediterranean light hits the Palais des Festivals, the red carpet unfurls for two weeks of cinema, glamour, and daring stories.
Glamour & Wonderful Dresses
The first night sets the tone: ruffles, diamonds, and couture that stops traffic. From sweeping silhouettes to sharp tuxedos, the steps of the Palais become a runway where fashion meets film. As captured it, “the curtain is finally rising” on a night of drama, nostalgia, and “wonderful dresses” that remind the world why Cannes is still the capital of red-carpet magic.
This year, a truly global nine-member jury takes the helm, led by South Korean master Park Chan-wook, president. He’s joined by:
- — U.S. actress, fresh off The Substance
- — Oscar-winning Chinese director of *Nomadland
- Stellan Skarsgård — Swedish actor
- Ruth Negga — Irish-Ethiopian actress
- Laura Wandel — Belgian filmmaker
- Isaach de Bankolé — Ivorian actor
- Diego Céspedes — Chilean filmmaker
- Paul Laverty — Irish-Scottish screenwriter
Together they’ll decide the Palme d’Or from 22 films in competition.
A Fantastic Film Competition
This year’s lineup is being called “fantastic” for its mix of auteurs and new voices. The festival opens with The Electric Kiss La Vénus Électrique by Pierre Salvadori, screening out of competition.
In the race for the Palme d’Or: Pedro Almodóvar, Hirokazu Kore-eda, Cristian Mungiu face off with rising talents like Lukas Dhont and Léa Mysius.
