‘RED ORIGIN’ draws inspiration from the Hongbang tailors, known as the Red Gang Tailors, the first generation of Chinese artisans to learn Western tailoring from Europeans in early 20th-century Shanghai. By assimilating these techniques, they shaped a hybrid wardrobe, blending Western rigor with Eastern sensitivity. This gesture resonates intimately with the journey of Edmond Luu. Raised in France and carrying Chinese roots long kept in silence, he too learned a language that came from elsewhere before being able to express his own. Like the Red Gang, his work is born from this encounter: understanding the other in order to define oneself.
